Job summary

St. Clair Catholic District School Board in Ontario is seeking a Casual/Call-in Educational Assistant to support students under the supervision of the principal, classroom teacher, and special education resource teacher.

The role focuses on assisting exceptional students with their personal, social, academic and physical development in a caring, professional manner, including supervision, implementing instruction, and helping with personal care while collaborating with school staff.

Qualifications

• Completion of a 2-year program related to Childhood Education (e.g., Developmental Service Worker, Social Service Worker, Early Childhood Educator, Child and Youth Care).
• Other diplomas/degrees may be considered in fields related to supporting vulnerable populations and/or individuals with special education needs.
• Minimum of one-year previous work experience is preferred.
• Education and experience working with children diagnosed with Autism is an asset.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills when dealing with students, parents and teachers.
• Maintain confidentiality due to sensitive information.
• Proven ability to act independently while maintaining professionalism.
• Ability to problem-solve and recommend solutions.
• Ability to assist with personal care (toileting, feeding, mobility).
• Demonstrated computer skills is a definite asset.

Responsibilities

• Provide support to students with physical, developmental, medical, communication and/or behaviour needs.
• Supervise and implement daily routines.
• Implement teacher-designed instruction programs.
• Attend to physical care needs of students including toileting, feeding, mobility, and positioning.
• Collaborate effectively with teachers and other school staff.
