M'Chigeeng First Nation is seeking a dedicated Special Education Resource Teacher to support students with diverse needs. The role involves creating tailored educational plans, collaborating with parents and staff, and fostering a positive learning environment. Ideal candidates will have relevant educational qualifications and a strong understanding of Anishinaabe culture.
Position : Special Education Resource Teacher (SERT)

Position Summary
The Special Education Resource Teacher works which students who have a wide range of special needs and challenges. The SERT will create and apply appropriate curriculum and assign activities that are specific to students abilities and needs. The SERT teacher is involved in each student academic, social, and behavioral development Maintaining / reporting student achievement, ensuring IEPs and I PRC are followed, student files are maintained and up to date, contribute to a positive school culture, incorporating trauma inform practice, Active in ensuring student success. Equality diversity inclusion (EDI) practiced and reflected in the school environment. This position is subject to MChigeeng First Nation personnel and administrative policies, relevant education department program policies and procedures, and relevant laws and regulations. Other duties and responsibilities related to the position i.e., online programming.
Reporting Relationship
The Teacher reports directly to the school principal.
Essential Functions
In addition to the responsibilities of a teacher as outlined in the Education Act and regulations, the Special Education teacher will :
Qualifications and Requirements
Preferred
Bachelor of Arts (Honours), Bachelor of Education, Program of Teacher Education, Special Education Specialist, Reading Specialist, other Additional Qualifications, Teaching experience.
Minimum
Valid Ontario College of Teachers Certificate and Undergraduate Degree Must be working to attain Bachelor of Education Degree and obtain additional qualifications.
Have knowledge and / or experience with the culture, tradition, history, and customs of the Anishinaabe
Understanding and fluency of Ojibwe is an asset or must be willing to learn the language.
CRC / VSS must be current thirty (30) days, original or certified copy
Other
Patience, understanding and dedicated to giving each individual student the tools and guidance needed to help them maximize success.
Provide original or certified copy of a Police Vulnerable Sector Screening documents.
Ability to make decisions and work on own initiatives supportive to the school environment.
Understanding and fluency of Ojibwe is an asset or must be willing to learn the language.
CRC / VSS Rational
CRC / VSS must be current thirty (30) days, original or certified copy. All employment applicants for MFN Education programs are required to submit a Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Screen as individuals will work directly / indirectly with students. All individuals employed under the education program must have a record clear of charges and convictions relating to child sexual harassment or abuse of any kind.
