Job summary

Ontario Northland Transportation Commission (ONTC) is seeking a Spare Customer Service Sales Agent to provide in-person and phone support for bus and train services. The role is flexible, covering vacations, sick leave, and peak periods, with variable hours.

The position requires a secondary school diploma or GED, a valid driver’s license, and strong customer service and reporting skills. Shifts are 8 hours, with travel between Timmins and Cochrane as needed. Bilingual English/French is a plus.

POSITION: Spare Customer Service Sales Agent
REPORTS TO: Supervisor Customer Service
DEPARTMENT: Passenger Services
LOCATION: Timmins or Cochrane
REFERENCE: 500-64B-27
RATE OF PAY: $29.5362- $32.8180/ hour (Increases set out as per the collective agreement. Full rate effective after 1 year of service)

ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENT:

The Spare Customer Service Sales Agent (CSSA) will provide superior customer service both in person and over the phone regarding Ontario Northland bus and train service. This role functions on a flexible, as-needed basis, covering scheduled shifts during vacations, sick leave, and peak periods. Hours are variable and not guaranteed, requiring adaptability and readiness to support operational needs.

MAJOR DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Sells ONTC bus/train and interline tickets
  • Relieves Ticket Agents over six ONTC stations between North Bay and Moosonee (This position will primarily service Timmins, Cochrane, Kirkland Lake Terminals)
  • Provides fare and schedule information for all services to the general public
  • Processes and handles incoming and outgoing Bus Parcel Express and baggage (weighing up to 75 pounds)
  • Performs daily audit functions in order to reconcile paperwork and daily sales
  • Responds to incoming customer enquiries via email, phone or other correspondence
  • Responds to customer concerns and complaints
  • Employees will be provided with on-the-road compensation in accordance with the collective agreement
  • 8-hour shifts with the availability to work within a 24 hour/ 7-day operation
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Secondary School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED)
  • Valid driver's license and have access to a reliable vehicle
  • Excellent customer service skills and have experience in providing customer service in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong computer skills and experience using Windows based applications
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Project a positive and helpful image at all times
  • Previous experience dealing with cash and reconciliation for multiple transactions
  • Must have the flexibility necessary to adapt to changing schedules and locations (position requires frequent overnight travel)
  • Preference will be given to qualified applicants who are fluent in both official languages (English and French)
