BarChef, the internationally acclaimed cocktail bar located on Queen Street West in downtown Toronto, is looking to hire a full-time Sous Chef.

The Sous Chef will work alongside the Kitchen Manager and Director of Culinary and will be responsible for all kitchen functions, including food purchasing, inventory management, preparation, and maintaining quality standards, sanitation, and cleanliness. The role also involves training employees in cooking methods, plate presentation, portioning, food program maintenance, and equipment management.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Ensure all products are prepared and served according to recipes, portioning, and standards.
  • Provide orientation and training for new kitchen employees on company policies and procedures.
  • Train kitchen staff on food preparation, plating, and execution.
  • Maintain cleanliness and proper functioning of kitchen equipment.
  • Order and receive products according to specifications and policies.
  • Control food costs and usage, manage waste, and follow storage procedures.
  • Administer corrective actions for policy violations fairly and promptly.
  • Train staff on safe operation of kitchen equipment, including specialized equipment like dry ice and liquid nitrogen.
  • Ensure sanitation practices are followed and maintain cleaning schedules.
  • Monitor food holding and refrigeration temperatures.
