Job summary

Best Buy Canada is seeking a Software Development Manager to inspire and guide a talented development group in a remote-first, Vancouver-based setting. You will drive high‑quality product delivery, mentor engineers, and help shape product roadmaps alongside product managers.

You will apply strong backend experience with Java/Spring Boot, coding best practices, and modern AI tooling to enable scalable, resilient services across peak shopping periods.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years leading a technical team; supporting employees' learning and development through mentorship and coaching as well as hiring, onboarding, and general team leadership.
  • Demonstrated experience in building high quality products in an Agile development environment.
  • Proven hands-on backend development experience on a Java / Spring Boot microservices stack, including solid understanding of development practices, code standards, and code reviews.

As a software development manager , you will inspire and support the development team, encourage, and leverage developers' skills, knowledge and abilities to deliver quality results that directly impact and align with key technology goals.

We practice a remote first working model, leveraging in person interactions at our head office, in beautiful Vancouver, BC, for strategic, collaborative, and social purposes.

What you'll do as a software development manager:
  • Mentor and guide developers by providing continuous feedback aimed at helping them improve their technical and leadership skills.
  • Oversee recruitment and onboarding for your product family and ensure teams have the right mix of skills and knowledge to meet their objectives.
  • Co-create an inclusive, high-performance, and rewarding culture that allows people to do their best work.
  • Be ready to jump in and contribute to the design and development of complex applications and maintaining or modifying existing ones.
  • Partner with other leadership roles within your product family and help to connect people to our purpose, align their goals, and be amazing.
  • Be responsible for delivering high quality products on time within budget adhering to software delivery guidelines and standards.
  • Actively collaborates with product managers to build and refine product roadmap for their teams.
  • Ensure that your services are highly scalable and resilient to support peak days throughout the year (such as MTH, Black Friday, Event sales, promotion days) and growing business needs in production.
What we're looking for:
  • 3+ years leading a technical team; supporting employees' learning and development through mentorship and coaching as well as hiring, onboarding, and general team leadership.
  • Demonstrated experience in building high quality products in an Agile development environment.
  • Proven hands-on backend development experience on a Java / Spring Boot microservices stack, that includes solid understanding of development practices, adherence to code standards, working with source control management, test-driven development, and contribution to the code review process.
  • Strong communication skills and top-notch interpersonal skills; able to lead with authenticity.
  • Working knowledge of modern AI development tools, including AI-assisted coding, testing, and automation capabilities, and experience enabling teams to incorporate these technologies into their development workflows.
  • Willingness and ability to support after-hours operational incidents when necessary.

Compensation

Annualized Compensation Range

$97,000.00 - $130,000.00 This job is eligible for a company performance bonus in addition to the compensation range above.

Starting pay offered will consider skills and experience. Your pay can grow as you build your career with us.
