Job summary

Purolator is seeking a Software Development Manager to lead the development and evolution of customer-facing digital platforms such as Purolator.com, Google Marketing platforms, and Microsoft 365/SharePoint Online solutions. This hands-on leader will drive secure, scalable experiences, promote cloud-native engineering, automation, and responsible AI adoption.

• Technical leadership across modern web development: React, API-driven and cloud-native; AWS; Microsoft 365/SharePoint; DevOps/CI‑CD.

Responsibilities

• Translate business needs into technical options, risks and delivery status clearly.
• Balance near-term commitments with platform modernization and cost control.
• Oversee vendors, contracts, budgets, forecasts and investments.

Description

Reporting into the Product & Technology group within IT, the Software Development Manager will lead the development and evolution of Purolator's customer-facing digital platforms, including Purolator.com, Google Marketing platforms, and enterprise Microsoft 365 and SharePoint Online solutions.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role combining people leadership, software delivery, architecture, vendor and financial management. You will lead by example to deliver secure, scalable and accessible digital experiences while advancing cloud-native engineering, automation and responsible AI adoption.

Responsibilities

Lead engineering delivery and operations

• Own end-to-end delivery across quality, scope, timelines, budget, business value and operational stability.
• Serve as a hands-on development lead through solution design, code reviews, technical troubleshooting and development when required.
• Set engineering standards and governance across the SDLC, including secure coding, testing, CI/CD, release management, observability and operational readiness.
• Manage delivery risks, dependencies, technical debt, resource constraints and competing priorities while improving automation and platform support.

Build a high-performing team

• Lead, coach and develop a cross-functional team of Developers, Quality Assurance professionals and Business Analysts.
• Set clear goals and accountability; identify capability gaps and address them through hiring, mentoring, training, succession planning and knowledge sharing.
• Build capability across modern web and cloud development, Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Power Platform, Copilot, integrations and AI-enabled solutions.

Advance AI, automation and modern engineering

• Embed AI across the SDLC through AI-assisted coding, documentation, knowledge sharing, test automation, quality engineering and defect detection.
• Drive adoption of Microsoft Copilot and Copilot Studio, conversational AI, intelligent automation and AI-powered employee and customer self-service.
• Establish governance for secure, compliant and scalable AI solutions, and measure impact on productivity, quality, delivery speed and customer outcomes.

Additional Responsibilities

Shape architecture and technology strategy

• Lead solution design with Enterprise, Cloud, Security and Solution Architects using cloud-native, API-first, microservices and event-driven patterns.
• Guide AWS-based scalability, security, resilience and performance, supported by DevOps automation, monitoring and observability.
• Modernize customer and employee platforms using Microsoft Graph, SharePoint Framework (SPFx), APIs, reusable services and integration frameworks.
• Govern information architecture, taxonomy, metadata, search, permissions and content lifecycles across SharePoint Online and digital workplace platforms.
• Ensure solutions meet accessibility, privacy, multilingual and regulatory requirements, including WCAG and Quebec's Bill 96.

Partner with the business

• Work with Product Management and business leaders to define strategy, roadmaps, priorities, backlogs, releases and measurable outcomes.
• Translate business needs into sustainable technical solutions and communicate options, trade-offs, risks, dependencies, capacity and delivery status clearly.
• Partner with Marketing, Operations, Communications, HR and Technology teams on customer experience, collaboration, knowledge management, workflow automation and self-service initiatives.
• Balance near-term commitments with long-term platform modernization, security, maintainability and technical debt reduction.

Manage vendors and financial performance

• Manage vendors, consultants and delivery partners, including selection, contracts, statements of work, service levels, performance reviews, renewals and issue resolution.
• Manage budgets, forecasts, invoices, purchase orders and operating expenditures; monitor variances and support investment and P&L decisions.
• Evaluate technology investments and identify opportunities to reduce cost, improve efficiency and maximize business value.

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.

Experience

Required qualifications

• 6-10 years of software development experience, including strong full-stack expertise, and 5+ years leading development teams in a complex enterprise environment.
• Demonstrated ability to code, architect and lead simultaneously, with experience delivering customer-facing digital products and enterprise digital workplace solutions.
• Experience leading cross-functional teams and managing vendors, contracts, budgets, forecasts, invoices and technology expenditures.
• Strong stakeholder leadership, with the ability to balance business priorities, capacity, timelines, risks and technical constraints.
• Technical leadership across modern web development; React, Drupal and JavaScript/TypeScript; API-driven and cloud-native architecture; AWS; Microsoft 365 and SharePoint Online; Power Platform; Copilot/AI; Microsoft Graph and SPFx; DevOps and CI/CD; security, accessibility, privacy and multilingual delivery.

Preferred qualifications

• A track record of building high-performing Agile teams and delivering scalable customer and employee platforms.
• Deep experience with Microsoft 365, SharePoint Online, Teams, OneDrive, Power Platform, enterprise intranets, knowledge management and employee experience solutions.
• Experience implementing and governing Copilot, Copilot Studio, generative AI, enterprise search, metadata and information architecture.
• Strong executive communication, negotiation and coaching skills, with demonstrated success driving modernization, automation and continuous improvement.

Language Requirement: Proficiency in English is required for this position due to the frequent communications that must be conducted in English with various stakeholders. This requirement is justified by the nature of the responsibilities and operational needs.
