Job summary

Socket.dev in Calgary is seeking a motivated software engineering student to join our agile team. You will contribute to frontend and backend features using Javascript, Typescript, Vue, and Python, and participate in design, testing, and deployment activities.

Hybrid work enables time in the office and remotely while you complete your third year in Software Engineering, CS, or related programs. A strong curiosity, collaboration, and drive to ship quality software are required.

• Currently enrolled in 3rd year of Software Engineering, CS, or related program.
• Availability for hybrid work and internship opportunities.

Responsibilities

• Develop features for frontend and backend applications using Vue, Javascript and Python.
• Participate in requirements gathering, system design, estimation, code reviews, unit tests, documentation, testing, and deployment automation.
• Assist deployment automation and monitoring tools to ensure reliability.
• Provide Tier 3 support and perform root-cause analysis for issues.
• Collaborate with Product, QA, and UX teams to deliver high-quality user experiences.

Job description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Become part of an agile development team using a variety of technologies to develop features and functionality for our core product.
• Participate in all aspects of the software development and delivery processes, including defining requirements, system design, estimating, code reviews, unit tests, documentation, testing, deployment automation and monitoring tools
• Develop software for complex frontend and backend applications utilizing the IWS technology stack which includes Javascript, Vue and Python.
• Work with cloud technologies on the Azure platform.
• Provide Tier 3 and customer support
• Perform root-cause analysis for field and lab issues involving IWS products
• Work with Product Management, Quality Assurance, and User Experience teams to deliver features and functionality that provide exceptional user experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Experience with Front End Technologies like Javascript, Typescript and Vue.
• Experience with one OO language like Python & C#.
• Experience using SQL and NoSQL databases
• Experience with Linux OS
• Superior reasoning and analytical skills
• High degree of initiative, common sense and logical and creative thinking
• Strong passion for software development and a history of getting things done.
• Well-developed communication, reporting, and presentation skills
• A strong commitment to quality
• The ability to work in a team or as an individual

• This position allows the opportunity for an employee to work in a hybrid environment where a portion of their role is in the office and the other portion remote.
