Job summary

Socket.dev in Calgary, Alberta is seeking a student Software Engineer in 3rd year to join our hybrid team. You will write software using agile methods and contribute to features across Java, C#, Typescript, Python, and AI-powered tools. You'll design, implement, and test features, write unit tests, and collaborate with Product Management, QA, and UX to deliver a strong user experience. The role emphasizes teamwork, quality, and ongoing learning in a dynamic environment.

Qualifications

• Proficient in Java, C#, Typescript, Python, and SQL with strong web development skills.
• Experience using AI-powered tools to support coding, debugging, and documentation.
• Familiar with Linux systems; Linux VMs are a plus.
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities; a commitment to quality.
• Knowledge of relational databases is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Write software using agile development methodologies.
• Design, implement, and test software features using our extensive toolset (Java, C#, Typescript, Python, AI tools).
• Investigate and resolve defects during release development and in production systems.
• Write unit tests for developed functionality.

Job description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Write software using agile development methodologies
• Design, implement, and test software features utilizing our extensive suite of development tools and a combination of Java, C#, Typescript, Python, and AI-powered tools.
• Investigate and resolve defects as part of release development and reported from production systems
• Write unit tests for developed functionality
• Work with the Product Management, Quality Assurance, and User Experience teams to deliver features and functionality that provide exceptional user experience
• Participate in all aspects of the software development process, including requirements definition (user stories), high-level designs, sizing and estimating exercises, code reviews, documentation and testing

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge in software languages such as Java, C#, Typescript, Python, SQL, and web development
• Ability to use AI tools to support coding, debugging, testing, documentation, and learning new technologies.
• Familiar with Linux systems (Linux virtual machines a plus)
• Well-developed communication skills
• Strong commitment to quality
• Ability to work in a team or as an individual
• Knowledge in relational databases and SQL would be an asset

Hybrid work Environment

• This position allows the opportunity for an employee to work in a hybrid environment where a portion of their role is in the office and the other portion remote.

Education

• Currently enrolled in 3rd year studies in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related Program
