Position Overview

In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health), patient safety is a priority and a shared responsibility. Continuous improvement of quality and safety is inherent in this role.

Under the supervision of the Coordinator, and as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team providing client-centered care, the Social Worker assesses, intervenes, consults, and refers clients and their caregivers/families. This is especially pertinent when social, economic, emotional, or psychological factors hinder care and optimal functioning.

Travel may be required for this position. Transportation arrangements must meet operational requirements and may involve the use of a personal vehicle.

Qualifications: Education, Training, and Experience

• Bachelor of Social Work degree from a recognized university.
• Current full registration with the BC College of Social Workers.
• Post-degree training in care for the seriously and persistently mentally ill and/or significant substance use (concurrent disorders), including psychosocial rehabilitation, chronic mental illnesses, treatment of major mental illnesses, and psychiatric treatment strategies.
• Familiarity with relevant legislation such as the Mental Health Act and the Guardianship Act.
• Knowledge of community-based health and human services.
• Two (2) years of recent, related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Valid BC Driver's License.
