Job summary

Kativik Ilisarniliriniq is hiring a Social Service Officer to support psychosocial development of students at the residence and training centre in Nunavik. Under supervision of the Residence Manager, you will collaborate with teams to foster well-being and educational success.

The role requires a first level university degree; bilingual or trilingual capability is preferred, with a schedule of 35 hours per week including evenings and some emergencies.

Qualifications

  • First level university degree in a relevant specialization.
  • Board may waive qualifications for suitable candidate who is a beneficiary of the JBNQA.
  • Fluency in two of the three working languages (Inuktitut, French, English).

  • Take action to help defuse crisis or emergency situations.
  • Support teachers and other interveners to meet students' needs.

Job description

FUNCTION & DUTIES:

Under the supervision of the Residence Manager, the Social Service Officer works closely with the teams of the residence and training centre to establish conditions that encourage the psychosocial development of students.

  • Evaluate students who have social, personal and school problems.
  • Organize individual helping relation meetings with target customers.
  • Take action to help defuse crisis or emergency situations.
  • Take part in team meetings to insure the helping relation follow ups.
  • Support teachers and other interveners in order to meet the student’s needs.
  • Take part in the development and animation of awareness and prevention programs.
  • Work with partner organizations’ representatives.
  • Write evaluation, balance sheet and situation evolution reports.
  • All other related tasks.
QUALIFICATIONS:

First level University Degree in a relevant specialization.

The Board may, at its discretion, waive any or all of the afore-mentioned qualifications if it finds a suitable candidate who is a beneficiary of the James Bay and Northern Québec Agreement (JBNQA) and who accepts, as a condition of employment, to follow a training plan determined by the Board.

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Fluency in 2 of the 3 working languages of the Board (Inuktitut, French, and English)
  • Experience in quarter way houses, youth centers, youth detention centers or desintoxication centers will be considered an asset.
  • Any northern or intercultural experience will be considered an asset.
WORK SCHEDULE:

35 hours per week. Day and evening schedule with availability for emergencies at night or on weekends to ensure a presence at the student residence and at the vocational training centre.

CLASSIFICATION / SALARY / BENEFITS:

In accordance with the SPPENOM collective agreement for professionals. This position belongs to job category 2149: from $56,670 to $100,410 annually depending on qualification and experience. All benefits are prorated based on the percentage of the task.
