  • Diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution in communications, marketing, digital media, public relations, or a related field.
  • 2–4 years of progressive experience managing and growing social media channels for an organization or brand.
  • Experience in fundraising, non-profit, healthcare, or mission-driven environment is an asset.
  • Experience using analytics and reporting to guide content and strategic decisions.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage priorities independently.
  • Valid driver’s license required.

Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager, Marketing, the Social Media Advisor plays a key role in advancing the Alberta Cancer Foundation’s mission by leading and elevating the organization’s social media presence and digital brand experience. This position is responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive social media strategy that supports fundraising priorities, stewardship, brand awareness, and community engagement across the province.

The Social Media Advisor serves as the Foundation’s subject matter expert for social media, providing strategic guidance, and performance insights that strengthen engagement, grow audiences, and amplify impact. This role is accountable for content development, platform growth, community and ambassador engagement, and ongoing optimization based on analytics and trends.

The Social Media Advisor collaborates closely with internal teams and external partners to source and share compelling stories from donors, patients, families, researchers, and the broader cancer community. Additionally, this role plays an integral part in organizing and maintaining social media systems, digital assets, and backend processes, ensuring efficient, consistent, and sustainable social media operations that support the Foundation’s broader marketing and communications objectives.

Please Note: This position is temporary, full-time for 16 months to cover a maternity leave.

How You'll Contribute
Content Development & Publishing
  • Support the development, execution, and ongoing evolution of the Alberta Cancer Foundation’s social media strategy in alignment with organizational priorities, fundraising objectives, and brand guidelines.
  • Serve as the organization’s social media subject matter expert, providing strategic guidance, recommendations, and best practices to internal stakeholders.
  • Identify emerging trends, platform updates, and opportunities to strengthen the Foundation’s digital presence and audience engagement.
  • Plan, create, schedule, and publish engaging, on-brand social media content that elevates storytelling, awareness, and impact.
  • Own the social media content calendar and ensure consistent, timely execution across all platforms.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to source compelling stories, visuals, and content related to donors, patients, families, researchers, and the broader cancer community.
  • Support marketing campaigns, fundraising initiatives, and events through integrated social media amplification.
Community Engagement & Partnerships
  • Build, manage, and grow a strong online community of supporters, ambassadors, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain a network of brand ambassadors used across departments for storytelling, amplification, and engagement opportunities.
  • Liaise with partners and collaborators to support content creation, cross-promotion, and shared storytelling initiatives
Analytics & Administration
  • Monitor, analyze, and report on social media performance, including impressions, engagement, reach, and audience growth, using insights to inform strategy and content optimization.
  • Maintain organized and secure social media systems, including digital asset libraries, filing structures, platform access, passwords, and related backend processes.
  • Ensure consistency, continuity, and efficiency of social media operations by documenting processes and supporting strong digital governance.
  • Oversee the Foundation’s digital video and multimedia platforms, including YouTube and Vimeo ensuring content is organized, current, optimized, and aligned with brand standards.
What You'll Bring to the Team
  • A diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution in communications, marketing, digital media, public relations, or a related field. Equivalencies with work experience accepted.
  • 2–4 years of progressive experience managing and growing social media channels for an organization or brand.
  • Experience in a fundraising, non-profit, healthcare, or mission-driven environment considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience using analytics and reporting to guide content and strategic decisions.
