Job summary

WinSport is seeking a Snowcat Driver to safely operate grooming equipment and prepare terrain for public use and competitions. You will perform pre-start checks, monitor equipment, and support snowmaking and terrain maintenance as part of the Venues and Operations teams.

Ideal candidates have prior snowcat experience and can work 10–12 hour overnight shifts in cold outdoor environments, collaborating with the Snowmaking Foreman and Supervisors to ensure safety and quality snow surfaces.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a snow cat driver.
  • 1–2 years' experience in a manual labour role is an asset.
  • Flexible schedule to meet the demands of the snow venues.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment in outdoor winter weather conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate snow cat to install, rebuild or modify terrain park features for public use and competition ski hill specification.
  • Performing safety/pre-start-up checks on equipment.
  • Monitoring gauges/equipment at all times.
  • Fall snowmaking setup and related equipment handling as needed.
  • Maintain the snow venues for day-to-day operations and ensure safe conditions.

Description
What the role is all about:

The Snowcat Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of snow grooming equipment to prepare and maintain WinSport’s ski and snowboard terrain. This position operates snowcats and related grooming equipment to create consistent, safe, and high-quality snow surfaces while supporting the daily operational needs of the hill.

The Snowcat Driver understands the importance of workplace safety and is committed to following all facility regulations, operational procedures, and safety standards. As a member of the Snowmaking and Trail Crew, the Snowcat Driver works as part of the team responsible for snowmaking, terrain preparation, and the safe construction and maintenance of WinSport’s world-class snow venues at Canada Olympic Park.

This position reports to the Foreman, Venue Maintenance, and Supervisor, Venues, and works collaboratively with other members of the Venues and Operations teams to support the safe and effective operation of the facility.

What you will be doing:
  • Safely operate snow cat to install, rebuild or modify terrain park features for public use and competition ski hill specification
  • Performing safety/pre-start-up checks on equipment
  • Monitoring gauges/equipment at all times

As needed:

  • Fall snowmaking setup. Transferring guns and hose onto the different snow venues
  • Setting up and taking down of all snowmaking equipment during the snowmaking portion of the season
  • Startup and shutdown of the snowmaking equipment during weather changes
  • Safe operation of all snowmaking equipment
  • Understanding the snowmaking plan and working directly with the Snowmaking Foreman and Supervisor to ensure it is achieved
  • Maintenance of snowmaking equipment including hydrants, stick guns, fan guns, gun bases and hoses
  • Safe operation of snowmobiles on the ski hill
  • Maintain snow venues for day to day operations. Rake and dye takeoffs and landings in the terrain park
  • Dye Halfpipe
  • Setup fence, ribbon line and B net
  • Close terrain park features when they become unsafe (snow conditions, weather, damage)
  • Setup and repair safety equipment (pads, ribbon, fence, B net) on the winter snow venues
  • Repair terrain park features if damaged (replace plywood skirting, grind and paint sliding surfaces)
  • Competition/Event setup and takedown on all snow venues Setup event fence, ribbon lines, rake and dye features, chop moguls, build takeoffs
  • Maintain the snow venues; picking up debris and disposal of garbage
  • Believe in safety first, demonstrating a safe work practice at all times by adhering to all WinSport safety policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to the WinSport Terrain park rules and promote the safe use of the terrain park and half pipe venue
  • Demonstrate a safe work practice at all times by adhering to all WinSport safety policy and procedures and ensuring one's safety is preserved along with the protection of co-workers, direct reports and WinSport guests
  • Other duties as assigned
What you bring:

Employment Information

  • No vacation plans December 20th-January 3rd, and all of February.
  • Working 10–12-hour shifts, primarily overnight

You will be:

  • Consistent and continuous crouching and bending
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, pull objects between 25lbs to 50lbs
  • Able to work in extreme weather conditions-cold, windy, snow environments
  • Ability to maintain stamina for extended periods
  • Manipulation and gripping of power tools.
  • Hand/eye coordination
