ROLE OVERVIEW

The Snow Services Supervisor is responsible for supervising, coordinating and scheduling crews of heavy equipment operators engaged in snow and ice management across commercial and industrial properties. This role oversees the safe and efficient deployment of loaders, skid steers, plow trucks and sand trucks while ensuring compliance with WorkSafeBC requirements, fulfillment of client service level agreements, and effective utilization of company personnel and equipment during winter operations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Snow Services Supervisor is accountable for:

Safety Leadership & Compliance

• Lead by example and promote a strong safety culture consistent with CME's Core Values.


• Know and ensure compliance with all applicable WorkSafeBC legislation, company policies and safe work procedures.


• Conduct and document daily hazard assessments in HCSS.


• Ensure workers receive appropriate site orientations, including emergency procedures, muster points and first aid locations.


• Ensure workers are equipped with, trained in, and properly using required personal protective equipment.


• Verify that pre-operational inspections are completed and documented and conduct regular field safety inspections.


• Ensure all incidents, injuries and near misses are immediately reported, accurately documented, investigated and corrective actions implemented.


• Participate in incident investigations and support company-wide learning and continuous improvement.

Snow Operations Execution

• Supervise, coordinate and schedule heavy equipment operators during winter operations.


• Dispatch personnel and equipment to maximize operational efficiency and meet contractual response times.


• Coordinate equipment and manpower requirements with the Construction Manager to optimize fleet utilization.


• Monitor weather conditions, site priorities and operational status throughout winter events.


• Resolve operational issues and implement measures to improve productivity and service delivery.


• Maintain ongoing communication regarding technical, operational and contractual matters.

Quality & Client Satisfaction

• Deliver snow and ice management services that meet contractual requirements and client expectations.


• Develop, implement and monitor quality control measures.


• Maintain accurate daily production records, site diaries and photographic documentation where required.


• Ensure work is completed safely, efficiently and within established service levels.

Team Leadership & Development

• Provide leadership, coaching and hands-on training to crew members.


• Schedule and facilitate regular Level 10 and Toolbox Meetings and ensure meeting records are maintained.


• Establish annual and quarterly Rocks, monitor Scorecard measurables and review progress with the team.


• Provide ongoing performance coaching, recognition and corrective feedback.


• Recommend hiring, promotions and other personnel actions.


• Administer progressive discipline in accordance with company policies.

Operational Communication & Reporting

• Ensure accurate daily entry and approval of employee timecards.


• Record daily production and operational activities.


• Maintain complete operational records within company software systems.


• Communicate operational updates, resource requirements and emerging issues to management.


• Prepare reports and documentation as required.

Physical Requirements

• Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 lbs and occasionally up to 50 lbs.


• Work outdoors in snow, rain, cold, noise and other adverse weather conditions.


• Perform repetitive tasks.


• Alternate between sitting, standing and walking.


• Bend, crouch, kneel and climb as required.


• Maintain sufficient stamina to work extended shifts during major weather events.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Valid Class 5 BC Drivers’ Licence


• Minimum five (5) years of experience operating heavy equipment within civil construction or winter maintenance operations.


• Previous supervisory or crew leadership experience preferred.


• Thorough knowledge of snow and ice management operations.


• Experience reading site maps and coordinating emergency response logistics.


• Proficiency using dispatch, fleet management and field reporting software.


• Journeyperson certification in a related trade is considered an asset.

HOURS OF WORK

The Snow Services Supervisor position requires flexibility to meet the operational demands of winter maintenance and snow removal services. Hours of work vary based on weather conditions, operational requirements, and business needs. During snow events and other winter weather operations, employees should expect early start times, extended workdays, and consecutive days of work as required.

Shifts typically begin as early as 5:00 a.m. and may exceed 12 hours in duration during periods of sustained snowfall or emergency operations. Employees may also be required to work evenings, overnight hours, weekends, and statutory holidays to maintain service levels.

During periods of reduced winter activity, scheduled hours may decrease based on operational requirements. Employees are encouraged to take advantage of these quieter periods to rest and recover, recognizing that the demands of snow operations often require extended hours during periods of sustained winter weather. Where operationally feasible, scheduling flexibility and time off may be provided to support work-life balance. Work schedules are subject to change with little notice in response to weather forecasts and operational priorities.
