Job description

Westman Groundworks is hiring dependable equipment operators for the upcoming winter season. Operators may be assigned to skid steers, loaders or plow trucks based on their experience and qualifications.

This is an on-call, weather-dependent position. There are no guaranteed or regularly scheduled hours; however, operators should expect full working days whenever Brandon receives approximately two inches or more of snow. Additional filler work?including snow hauling, shop work and equipment maintenance?may be offered when available.

Duties:
  • Operate skid steers, loaders or plow trucks for commercial snow removal
  • Clear snow safely and efficiently from assigned properties
  • Follow assigned routes and maintain the expected route timing
  • Work independently while remaining in communication with supervisors and other crew members
  • Complete basic equipment maintenance, including:
    • Keeping the equipment and cab clean
    • Greasing the machine as required
    • Checking and topping up fluids
    • Reporting damage, mechanical issues or safety concerns
  • Complete route records and confirm when assigned properties have been serviced
  • Follow all company safety procedures and site-specific instructions
  • Assist with snow hauling, shop work and other duties when available
Requirements
  • Valid Class 5 driver?s licence
  • Previous heavy-equipment operating experience
  • Snow-removal experience is preferred
  • Ability to operate safely around vehicles, buildings, curbs and pedestrians
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Reliable cellphone with an active data plan for routing, job documentation and communication
  • Ability to work long shifts, including overnight, early-morning, weekend and holiday hours
  • Ability to report for work on short notice when snow events occur
  • Dependable transportation to the designated starting location
  • Reliable, safety-conscious and able to maintain productivity throughout extended shifts
Assets
  • Class 3 driver?s licence, with or without an air-brake endorsement
  • Class 5 driver?s licence with an air-brake endorsement
  • Experience operating more than one type of snow-removal equipment
  • Basic mechanical knowledge
