Job Overview
The City is seeking a skilled technician to perform maintenance and repair duties on small combustion engines and mechanical equipment.
Major Responsibilities:
- Performs all maintenance and repair, including disassembly and re-assembly, for small combustion engines and general maintenance in connection with mechanical equipment and facilities.
- Performs diagnostic maintenance repairs, including but not limited to rebuilding and overhauling, to both single and multi-valve hydraulic power systems, two stroke and four stroke engines, generators, pumps, garden tractors, ice resurfacers, grass cutting equipment, edgers, snow blowers, chainsaws, chippers, stumpers, etc.
- Performs all sharpening and grinding duties for multi-blade mowers and hydraulic chippers.
- Performs minor fabrication duties to various maintenance equipment including minor welding repairs.
- Performs a variety of skilled work not requiring the service of other licensed trade.
- Completes written reports as requested and as related to tasks completed, as well as requisitioning for material.
- Stores and issues equipment, tools and supplies.
- Travels to various work locations.
- May be required to assist in providing work direction and training of other staff.
- May be required to work evening shifts, weekends and/or overtime, based on seasonal operation.
Key Qualifications:
Your application must describe your qualifications as they relate to:
- Must be certified as a Small Engine Technician by the Ministry of Training Colleges and Universities or equivalent combination of certification and experience.
- Experienced in the repair of small combustion engines and hydraulic power systems.
- Must be certified in propane handling or able to obtain certification within six (6) months of placement.
- Must possess a certificate in Internal Combustion – Alternative Fuel or able to obtain certification within one (1) year of placement.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Province of Ontario Class "DZ" Driver’s License or be able to obtain a “DZ” License within six (6) months of placement and must qualify for the City’s equipment operating permits and requirements.
You must also have:
- Must be physically capable of performing required suites and able to work in all weather conditions.
- With the appropriate safety precautions, must be able to tolerate dusty, noisy, heights and odorous conditions.
- Must be familiar with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the Regulations that apply to this work.
- Ability to comprehend specifications and equipment manuals.
- Must be able to weld and perform metal fabrication duties.
- Must be able to work shifts and/or overtime.
