Job summary

Sheshegwaning First Nation is seeking a skilled Labourer to support the Housing Department under the Housing Director. The role focuses on repairs to Band owned housing units, including plumbing, heating/cooling, and carpentry work (interior and exterior).

It also covers painting, drywall repair, and minor renovations as funding allows. Ideal candidates have a secondary school diploma or carpentry trade certificate, experience with power tools, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Secondary School graduate plus acceptable related work experience and/or trade certificate in Carpentry.
  • Experience in home repair, maintenance, and renovations.
  • Experience working safely with power tools.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of building codes is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous culture and community life.

Responsibilities

  • Complete repairs to Band owned housing units including minor repairs to plumbing and heating/cooling systems as well as carpentry repairs (interior/exterior), as needed
  • Perform other routine maintenance jobs such as painting and drywall repair
  • Complete minor renovation projects, as required, subject to funding
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment, make minor purchases, as required, and communicate with the Housing Director to ensure efficiencies
  • Ensure proper PPE is always worn and safe working practices are always followed
  • Assist in maintaining a clean and safe work-site
  • Required to move furniture, equipment and supplies, as needed
  • Other duties, as assigned

Sheshegwaning First Nation is seeking a highly motivated, well-organized and versatile person to fill the position of Skilled Labourer within the Housing Department.Under the supervision of the Housing Director, this person will support the work of the Housing Department.

Qualifications:
