Job summary

Copcan Civil, part of the Norland Limited group, seeks skilled Civil Labourers to join our Campbell River team. You’ll work on civil and underground utility projects across the Vancouver Island North area, with early starts, overtime, and potential weekend work.

The role requires physical fitness, willingness to learn, a valid driver’s license (asset), and a solid safety mindset. Training and a comprehensive benefits package are offered.

Qualifications

• Civil construction or general labor experience preferred.
• Physically fit; able to perform heavy lifting, repetitive tasks, and work in all weather.
• Reliable, with strong work ethic and willingness to learn.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation is an asset.
• Basic understanding of construction safety practices.

Responsibilities

• Perform general labor duties on civil construction sites (digging, grading, raking, shoveling).
• Assist with installation of underground utilities (water, sewer, storm).
• Support pipe crews with alignment, bedding, and backfilling.
• Load, unload, and move construction materials and equipment.
• Operate small tools and equipment (plate tampers, cut-off saws, jackhammers).
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
• Follow directions from supervisors, foremen, and lead hands.
• Assist with traffic control and site safety setup as required.
• Participate in toolbox talks and adhere to safety policies.

We are looking for skilled Civil Labourers to join our team in Campbell River ( Vancouver Island North).

Copcan Civil, part of Norland Limited, is an award-winning civil construction company with offices on the Island in both Nanaimo and Victoria. Copcan has been in business since 1970, Copcan Civil has successfully completed projects across Vancouver Island and the BC Interior, including highways, bridge construction, underground utilities, demolition, marine infrastructure, private development, and municipal works.

Copcan Civil is currently seeking experienced Civil Labourers to join our team. This role involves working on job sites that involves underground utility, civil, and construction projects across the area.

You will need to be able to get to locations that are not on the transit route.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Perform general labor duties on civil construction sites including digging, grading, raking, and shoveling
• Assist with installation of underground utilities (water, sewer, storm)

• Previous experience in civil construction or general labor (preferred but not required)
• Physically fit and capable of heavy lifting, repetitive tasks, and working in all weather conditions
• Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to learn
• Ability to work well in a team environment
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation (asset)
• Basic understanding of construction safety practices

Certifications (Assets)

• CSTS (Construction Safety Training System)
• WHMIS 2015
• Confined Space Entry
• Ground Disturbance Level II
• First Aid (Level 1 or higher)

Working Conditions

• Outdoor work in varying weather conditions
• Physically demanding environment (lifting, bending, standing for long periods)
• Early start times, overtime, and weekend work may be required
• Travel to different project sites may be necessary

Compensation

This is a Unionized position. Expected hourly rate: Unionized wage range for this position is $26.05 – $36.63 per hour (based on candidate’s experience), plus 12% vacation/statutory holiday pay.
