SWM Contracting Inc. is a well-established general contractor in the Northern Ontario region, based in Timmins, Ontario. SWM specializes in design-build services, hydro-electric projects, steel buildings, concrete installations, mechanical and piping.

SWM has recently been acquired by another local company in the north with a strong reputation for its relationships with clients, dedication to projects, and commitment to employee success.

Role Overview

We are currently seeking a highly motivated and experienced Construction Supervisor to join the SWM Contracting Inc. team. In this role, you will support the Project Manager in overseeing construction projects from inception to completion, ensuring work is performed according to project specifications, timelines, and safety standards. Your strong attention to detail and proactive approach will be essential in maintaining project schedules and fostering a collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Project Manager in planning, coordinating, and supervising construction activities on-site to ensure timely project completion.
• Monitor construction progress and performance, addressing issues as they arise to mitigate delays.
• Collaborate with subcontractors and suppliers to ensure compliance with project specifications and quality standards.
• Conduct regular site inspections to enforce safety protocols and maintain a safe working environment.
• Review and interpret construction drawings, plans, and specifications to effectively communicate project requirements.
• Maintain accurate project documentation, including daily reports, progress logs, and incident reports.
• Facilitate effective communication between all project stakeholders, including the construction team, clients, engineers, and architects.

Required and Preferred Qualifications

Required:

• Over 5 years of relevant work experience in a construction environment.
• Computer knowledge with Microsoft Office and Excel.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both English and French.
• Strong leadership capabilities with a focus on teamwork and collaboration.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while maintaining attention to detail.
• Proactive problem-solving skills and a strong sense of initiative.
• Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Certificate.
• Own vehicle with a valid driver’s license.

Preferred (an asset):

• Carpenter or other trade certification.
• Post-secondary education in project management or building technologies.
• Working at heights training.
• Computer knowledge with Microsoft Project.
• Knowledge of CAD.

Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies

• Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
• Familiarity with construction software and tools.
• Basic understanding of building codes and construction regulations.
