Job summary

Glencore Canada is seeking a Project Manager to oversee environmental compliance, reclamation and safety programs at Boss Mountain Mine, with potential expansion to other legacy sites in Western Canada. The role reports to the Western Reclamation Manager and requires coordinating with government authorities and contractors.

The role in a nutshell:

In this role, you will report to the Western Reclamation Manager and oversee compliance with Glencore and government requirements, including health and safety, environmental and reclamation permits, dam safety and WTP operations. You will support engagement with government authorities and local stakeholders regarding site operations and monitoring results. You will provide direction to contractors and consultants and conduct final adequacy reviews of their work products. You will develop annual project schedules and operating budgets while overseeing project, contractor and maintenance activities. Although primarily focused on Boss Mountain Mine, this role may expand to other legacy sites in Western Canada and support the Brenda Mine Site Manager.

More specifically, you will be expected to:

  • Ensure comprehensive safety inductions are conducted for contractors and ensures Staff and Contractors have adequate training and are following protocols.
  • Participates in completing risk assessments with internal and external teams to ensure compliance with Glencore FHP’s and assist with technical knowledge related to environmental items for risk management
  • Assisting in completion and approving work permits for work to be safely completed at the site and review and update of all site specific documents including EPRP, OMS, Closure Management Manual, LOTO procedures, TMP
  • Coordinate government authorities, contractors and consultants for all site inspections, including dam safety, maintenance planning and permit compliance inspections.
  • Collect and review regulatory monitoring data, including samples and laboratory results, and prepare site monitoring and reclamation reports to meet government compliance requirements.
  • Supervise and assistance to consultants to complete work that is beyond our capability e.g. AEMP, revegetation monitoring, waste rock chemical characterization, treatment options assessment
  • Assist with technical review of environmental and geotechnical consultant reports
  • Supervise contractors and smaller capital projects across the sites, ensuring all required work is completed according to the defined scope and in compliance with Glencore’s HSEC requirements.
  • Support the preparation and evaluation of technical RFPs, as well as the technical and safety review of final work plans.
  • Provide and coordinate site-specific safety and orientation training, including the necessary information, tools and guidance to ensure work is completed safely.
  • Manage project budgets and approve invoices, while reviewing and signing off on final work products, ranging from pump replacements to technical reports.
  • Inspect, supervise and oversee that all systems/equipment is being inspected/calibrated, functioning correctly and preventative maintenance is being completed. Without operational equipment the site cannot maintain compliance with permits.
  • Respond and investigate any unusual site conditions as required

Do you have what it takes?

  • Community College in Engineering, Health & Safety, Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in Project management and in environmental field
  • Experience with various computer applications including Microsoft office.
  • Highly organized and able to adjust to changing priorities, with the ability to develop schedules as circumstances change.
  • Able to assess and prioritize issues effectively, focusing on the most critical matters first.
  • Solid problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify appropriate solutions and coordinate contractors or consultants to implement them.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and collaborate effectively with individuals from diverse professional backgrounds.
  • Multidisciplinary understanding of mining-related environmental conditions and their relationship to the receiving environment.
  • Knowledge and experience in permitting, HSEC requirements and regulatory compliance management.

Travel: You will be required to travel to the different sites approximately 30-40% of the time.

Language: Advanced proficiency in English (verbal and written) is mandatory

Location: The position will be based at Brenda Mines near Kelowna when not travelling to sites.

The expected base salary for this position is 76 000$ to 100 000$, based on competencies, skills, and qualifications and aligned with internal equity. The incumbent will also be eligible to participate in a variable compensation plan (bonus) (note: payment of variable compensation is subject to the terms and conditions of the variable compensation plan and is not guaranteed).
