Job summary

Qualifications

About The Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for a Manager, Community Relations to join our Centerra Corporate team. This role leads Indigenous and Community Initiatives at Centerra’s BC sites (Mount Milligan, Kemess and Endako) in promoting and managing our social performance and license to operate within our partner communities.

The role will be responsible to manage day-to-day queries and issues related to Centerra Gold’s external relations and social performance in British Columbia, as well as coordinate community engagement, communications and social compliance projects. The Manager will also be responsible for supporting the development and implementation of Centerra Gold’s community investment initiatives in British Columbia.

The role will be based in BC (with preference given to applicants located in the projects’ sites region - central BC) with frequent travel to the Mount Milligan, Endako and Kemess mine sites as well as the surrounding regional communities.

Your Responsibilities Will Include, But Are Not Limited To
  • Understand the Company’s sustainability commitments in British Columbia, especially those made to local government and Indigenous groups, which includes knowledge and comprehension all Impact Benefit Agreements, Environmental Assessment Social Conditions and/or any other formal agreements with external parties.
  • Responsible to coordinate the implementation and roll-out of the Centerra stakeholder database and responsible for overseeing routine data entry of consultation and engagement activities into the database.
  • Lead the establishment and maintenance of positive external relationships with individuals, businesses, local government and community-based organizations that support the Company’s outreach efforts and its Community Policy.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of the Company’s community engagement and community investment programs in British Columbia, and ensure timely reporting on these programs, as required.
  • Directly supervise the Coordinator and onsite First Nation Liaisons to coordinate, facilitate and/or participate in community, government and First Nations meetings when required, that may be relevant to or affect the Company’s business interests. This includes developing meeting presentation materials, taking minutes and tracking action items through to completion.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of cultural orientation, onsite resources and activities at Mount Milligan, Endako and Kemess.
  • Work with the Specialist, Environmental and Social Compliance and onsite First Nations liaisons to ensure Company compliance with all agreements with Indigenous groups in British Columbia, including coordinating, and when required, attending, facilitating and/or participating in Committee and other meetings.
  • Lead the consultation requirements of permitting and/or compliance activities for Mount Milligan, Endako and Kemess.
  • Coordinate, prepare and review scheduled routine and ad-hoc reports on social compliance and/or community engagement and investment, including contributing to the Company’s annual Sustainability reports.
  • Spearhead the development and management of annual budgets for all Company sustainability activities in British Columbia.
  • Report on sustainability goals, objectives, commitments and programs and communicate both internally and externally about the development, implementation and outcomes of these programs, as needed.
  • Spearhead training programs such as the Pre-employment Training and Educational Readiness (PETER) designed to increase the number of indigenous fulltime employes and spread awareness of Centerra’s sustainability goals, objectives and commitments.
  • Coordinate the development of Company external communication materials, including writing and editing content as well as working with external suppliers/consultants.
  • Lead major event planning and logistics for Regulatory and Public Affairs activities such as but not limited to receptions, community updates and conference booth.
  • When required, make presentations on behalf of the Company and represent the Company at special events and conferences.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director, Regulatory and Public Affairs BC with integrity, competence and with an appropriate sense of urgency.
About You
  • Relevant degree specializing in business management / commerce, sustainability, communications, environmental science or management
  • Experience managing community relations teams, communications, and/or sustainability staff and teams in a mining or other natural resource extraction sector.
  • 8-10 year(s) of professional experience in intermediate and/or senior roles in social compliance management in the mining or extractives industry. Strong preference will be given to applicants with operational mining experience in BC.
  • Excellent cross-cultural communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills and interest and experience in managing compliance and social software programs.
  • Strong working knowledge of social compliance, ESG, mining and the global extractives sector.
  • Working knowledge of the Canadian environmental and mining regulatory framework and permitting regime is preferred.
  • Have a sense of personal responsibility, and the ability to identify and attach appropriate urgency to the requirements of various initiatives.
  • Possess interpersonal skills to help work across multiple cultures.
  • Be able to differentiate between negligible issues and issues of possible impact.
  • Demonstrate excellent project management, administrative, communication, interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships, and to adapt quickly to solve problems in a collaborative manner.
  • Act in a proactive manner to anticipate problems and solve existing problems in the context of operational requirements.
  • Able to listen to input, formulate recommendations in a confident and constructive manner, and incorporate that input into a well-constructed task or plan.
  • Can present company’s social performance positions clearly and enthusiastically, both internally and publicly.
  • Possess a style of clear and effective communication, both oral and written.
  • Be persistent and professional in the pursuit of Centerra’s social objectives.
  • Exhibit solid intellectual capability and the ability to advise and communicate with various levels of the organization.
