Job summary

Buttcon Limited is seeking a Site Superintendent to oversee on-site construction activities on our projects in Canada. This role ensures safety, budget, schedule, and quality standards are met, coordinating with subcontractors, project managers, architects, and engineers.

You will read blueprints, develop six-week lookahead schedules, lead weekly meetings, monitor RFIs, and enforce lean construction practices to deliver projects efficiently.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of ICI construction experience, supervisory role preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and project plans.
  • Knowledge of Lean Construction Practice and construction management software.

About the Role

Reporting to the Director, Field, the Site Superintendent is a crucial role within the construction and project management industry. This professional is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all on-site activities during the construction phase of a project. The Site Superintendent ensures that projects are completed safely, within budget, on schedule, and in accordance with quality standards and regulatory requirements.

Responsibility
  • Manage and lead on site construction teams, including subcontractors and labours.
  • Read and understand the subcontracts to ensure the scope of work is accurate and understood by all parties.
  • Delegate tasks, provide guidance, and monitor work progress to ensure adherence to project timelines and quality standards.
  • Collaborate with project managers, architects, engineers and subcontractors to understand project goals, plans, and specifications.
  • Create and maintain a detailed construction schedule, ensuring all activities are properly sequenced and executed.
  • Create and provide weekly updates maintaining a 6 week lookahead for site activities that ensures site activities align with the overall project schedule.
  • Lead weekly subtrade meetings to ensure site activities are planned and run smoothly.
  • Review and ensure RFI responses are received in a timely fashion and do not become impediments to the schedule
  • Monitor construction processes to ensure compliance with design, specifications, and industry standards.
  • Conduct regular inspections to identify and rectify any deviations or deficiencies in workmanship.
  • Posses a strong ability to understand the design drawings and read blueprints
  • Implement and enforce strict safety protocols and practices to ensure a secure work environment for all personnel on the construction site.
  • Manage project budget by tracking expenses, reviewing invoices, and controlling costs without compromising quality.
  • Coordinate with procurement teams to ensure timely delivery of materials and equipment to the site.
  • Act as a liaison between project stakeholders, providing updates on project progress, challenges and resolutions.
  • Document daily activities, issues, and decisions to maintain a comprehensive project record.
  • Address unforeseen issues promptly and make quick decisions to keep the project on track.
  • Ensure that all construction activities adhered to local building codes, regulations and permits.

Qualification Requirements
  • Minimum 5 years of previous experience in ICI construction or related field, preferably in a supervisory role.
  • Strong understanding of construction process, techniques, and terminology.
  • In depth, understanding, knowledge and implementation of the Ontario occupational health and safety act as it relates to each project.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and project plans.
  • Knowledge of Lean Construction Practice.
  • Proficiency in using construction management software and tools.
  • Computer literate, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Microsoft Project.
  • Journeyman Carpentry Certification and/or Gold Seal Certification is an asset.
  • Salus Safety Software familiarity is an asset
  • Procore and BIM software knowledge is an asset.
Working Condition and Environment
  • Primary work location on project sites.
  • Travel to construction sites is anticipated.
  • Exposure to construction work site environment in all seasons.
