Benchmark Builders Inc. in Kelowna, BC, is seeking a Site Superintendent – New Build Construction to lead the full lifecycle of large projects, from site prep to final delivery.

You will ensure compliance with building codes, safety standards, and project specifications. The role requires coordinating subcontractors, managing budgets, and maintaining schedules across multiple projects valued between $5M and $50M, with durations from six months to over two years.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years experience as a Site Superintendent with a General Contractor on new build construction projects ranging from $5M-$50M.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee planning, implementation, and management of project priorities according to the schedule.
  • Complete a site walk around at the beginning and end of each shift.
  • Supervise tasks by site crews and subcontractors.
  • Delegate responsibilities and tasks to site crews, subcontractors, and other workers according to priorities and plans.
  • Assist with toolbox talks, worksite inspections and safety orientations.
  • Complete Daily Logs and inspections as required.
  • Inspect completed work for quality per specifications.
  • Direct and manage subcontractors to meet timelines and contract terms.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to crew members for high performance and quality workmanship.
  • Enforce safety protocols and lead safety meetings for finishing trades.
  • Maintain daily reports and track project progress.

As we continue to grow, we're looking for a Site Superintendent – New Build Constructionto join our team in Kelowna, BC.

Candidates are required to provide a detailed construction project list with their application.

The Site Superintendent – New Build Construction (NBC) specializes in managing the complete lifecycle of large-scale construction projects, from site preparation through final delivery. This role demands in-depth knowledge of structural systems, building codes, and modern construction methods; ensuring projects are built to specifications, within budget, and on schedule.

In your role you will lead and coordinate teams of subcontractors, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations and resolving on-site challenges efficiently. Your expertise is in overseeing the construction of new facilities, ensuring that every stage, from foundation to final finishes, meets the highest quality standards while maintaining a safe, organized, and productive worksite. You will play a critical role in overseeing the execution of multiple projects ranging between $5M - $50M, with durations spanning six months to 2+ years.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the planning, implementation, and management of project priorities according to the schedule
  • Complete a site walk around at the beginning and end of each shift
  • Supervise tasks being completed by site crews and subcontractors
  • Delegate responsibilities and tasks to site crews, subcontractors, and other workers according to priorities and plans
  • Assist with conducting weekly Toolbox Talks, weekly Worksite Inspections, Site Specific Safety Orientations and Safety Reporting
  • Complete Daily Logs, as required
  • Inspect completed work to ensure it meets or exceeds industry standards and project specifications
  • Perform regular Site Inspections to monitor progress and adherence to quality standards
  • Direct and manage subcontractors, ensuring compliance with project timelines and contract terms
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to crew members to ensure high performance and quality workmanship
  • Enforce safety protocols and lead safety meetings for finishing trades, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations
  • Maintain daily reports, track project progress, and ensure all relevant documentation is accurate and up-to-date

Your Qualifications and Experience

Minimum of 5 years experience as a Site Superintendent with a General Contractor, specifically on new build construction projects ranging from $5M-$50M.

  • Journeyperson Certificate is considered an asset
  • Intermediate First Aid (Formerly OFA Level 2)
  • Own transportation, able to get to and from site
  • Able to stand and walk for long periods of time, push/pull, bend and crouch frequently and work in adverse weather conditions

Technical Skills:

  • Drawing interpretation: Ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and specifications to ensure accurate execution of tasks.
  • Foundational and structural knowledge: Strong expertise in civil works, excavation, foundations, and structural framing.
  • Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC): Strong focus on maintaining high standards of workmanship and adherence to project specifications.
  • Problem-solving skills: Ability to quickly address and resolve on-site challenges.

Project Management:

  • Risk management: Proactively identify potential risks related to safety, environmental issues, or project delays, and take pre-emptive actions to mitigate them.
  • Schedule management: Capability to coordinate and manage daily site activities to align with the overall construction schedule, ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Site logistics and large scale coordination: Ability to manage large teams of trades and heavy machinery, with a focus on scheduling, sequencing, and efficient site management.
  • Financial acumen and project documentation: Experience with maintaining progress reports, understanding budgets, tracking project costs, and managing change orders.

Leadership and Communication:

  • Strategic thinking and planning: The ability to plan long-term, manage multiple stages of the project, and anticipate issues
  • Team leadership: Proven ability to lead and supervise teams, fostering a culture of safety, efficiency and solutions-oriented environment. Able to delegate tasks effectively, mentor crew members, and foster collaboration across different trades.
  • Communication skills: Strong communication with general contractors, subcontractors, vendors, and other stakeholders to resolve issues and ensure smooth workflows.
  • Collaboration: Ability to work closely with project managers, architects, engineers and subcontractors to ensure project completion within scope and compliance with local building codes.

This position requires the ability to perform physically demanding tasks in a construction work environment.   • Able to work at varying heights, including the use of ladders, scaffolding, and elevated work platforms
  • Capacity to work in confined or awkward positions, in a range of environmental conditions, including outdoor and variable weather conditions
  • Able to safely and efficiently operate hand tools and power tools, for prolonged periods
  • Able to stand and walk for long periods of time, bend and crouch frequently
