Job summary

Ideal candidates bring 5+ years in chemical operations leadership, regulatory knowledge, and SAP/ERP experience, with a track record of improving performance and safety in a Canadian facility.

Job description

Purpose of position:

To supervise operations employees and plant/site assets ensuring safe, efficient and effective chemical handling activities which conform with corporate and local policies, while ensuring timely delivery of quality product that meets customer requirements.

Reporting Structure:

This position reports directly to the General Manager. Positions reporting to this role may or may not include the following (varies by District): Shift Supervisor; Operations Coordinator; Operations Clerk; Shipping Clerk; Work Leader; Lead Hand; Customer Service Representative; Dispatcher; Bulk Dispatcher; Maintenance Operator; Operator; Driver; Technician; Bulk Loader; Bulk Handler/Dispatcher; Quality Control Technician; Production Scheduler; Maintenance Lead Hand; Machinist/Millwright; Processor; Electrician; Filler; Pipefitter.

Key Accountabilities:
  • Leads and inspires a high performing Operations Team that supports Brenntag’s Core Values and the Brenntag Way execution for business conduct and compliance;

  • Contributes to the delivery of service excellence to both internal and external customer groups;

  • Builds and maintains a positive work environment by actively driving employee initiatives aimed at enhancing engagement and satisfaction;

  • Manages all facility and manufacturing activities to achieve required business objectives as set out by management while ensuring customer needs and requirements are met;

  • Responsible for tracking site and project performance using appropriate KPIs, metrics, tools, and techniques.

  • Responsible for planning, overseeing and leading continuous improvement projects from ideation through to completion.

  • Maintains and recommends improvement for all manufacturing equipment, trucks, and plant facilities to maximize facility output and ensures installations or upgrades are conducted in accordance with municipal, provincial and federal regulations;

  • Participates in the annual budgeting and planning process and manages operational budget (staffing, projects, captial expenditure ect.) within agreed upon budget parameters and principles;

  • Resolves production issues related to customer service problems;

  • Participates in assigned area emergency response preparedness;

  • Administers and ensures compliance of all aspects of the site to ISO standards and Responsible Distribution Canada registrations;

  • Ensures safety is the first priority and that all activities are conducted in accordance with quality, health, safety and environmental management systems as well as corporate and local policies.

Technical Competencies
  • Previous work experience in chemical operations management (5+ years)

  • Knowledge of applicable provincial and federal regulations relating to chemical manufacturing/distribution

  • Sound computer skills in the use of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

  • Previous experience/exposure with ERP systems, preferably SAP, would be considered an asset

  • Superior decision making, time management, and leadership skills
