Job summary

FortisBC in Burnaby, BC, is seeking a Shop Mechanic 2 for the Weld Shop to support fabrication and maintenance of metal components in a manufacturing setting. You’ll work from engineering drawings, operate heavy-duty welding equipment, and ensure safety standards while delivering quality assemblies and repairs with a skilled team in a unionized environment.

This role requires hands-on metal fabrication experience and a practical mechanical mindset.

Qualifications

  • Minimum two years metal fabrication experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Ability to interpret work orders, mechanical drawings, sketches and written instructions.
  • Demonstrated safe work habits and adherence to safety regulations and practices on a sustained basis.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare layouts, cut and shape metal components, and assemble finished products using tools, heavy duty machines, and welding processes.
  • Work with engineering drawings, sketches, or original parts and, if required, produce accurate working drawings or sketches or components.
  • Fabricate and repair a range of tools and equipment.
  • Use of manual and/or power operated tools and machines relevant to metal fabrication and forming.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
