Job summary

Nova Scotia Health Authority in Valley Regional Hospital is seeking a Shift Operator 3rd Class to ensure safe and efficient operation of a second-class power plant. You will perform day-to-day maintenance and support project activities across heating, ventilation, air conditioning, power and water systems.

We require certification or eligibility for Inter-Provincial Third Class Power Engineer, five years of plant operations experience, and knowledge of safety regulations and CSA standards.

Qualifications

  • Certification as Shift Operator Third Class or eligible for Inter-Provincial Third Class Power Engineer Certification.
  • Five years of experience in plant operations.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations, building codes and CSA standards.
  • Ability to use a variety of hand, power and industrial tools.
  • French language competencies are an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain a second-class power plant at Valley Regional Hospital.
  • Perform day-to-day maintenance and project-related activities for heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems.
  • Maintain logs and records relating to safety and efficiency of plant mechanical systems.
  • Assist in maintenance of buildings and equipment.

About the Opportunity

Reporting to the assistant manager or designate of facility services the shift operator 3rd class contributes to the safe and effective operation of a second-class power plant at Valley regional hospital by providing a full range of services relating to the day-to-day maintenance and project related activities for the facilities respecting the heating, air conditioning, power, and water generation units.The shift operator 3rd class also operates and maintains ventilation and air conditioning systems, maintains logs and records relating to safety and efficiency of plant mechanical systems and assists in maintenance of buildings and equipment.

The Shift Operator 3rd Class ensures all functions are completed in accordance with legislation, established standards, policies and procedures and exhibits sound professional judgment and initiative while working within the Mission, Vision and Strategic Directions and incorporates into daily practice the Core Competencies and Values of the organization.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Certification as Shift Operator Third Class or eligible for Inter-Provincial Third Class Power Engineer Certification of Qualification.
  • Five (5) years’ experience in plant operations
  • Knowledge of applicable safety regulations, building codes and CSA standards.
  • Ability to use a variety of hand, power and industrial tools for measuring, cutting, welding and assembling.
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
