Job summary

Hilton Foods Canada is seeking a Shift Manager to lead production teams on site in Brantford, Ontario. You will ensure product quality and cost targets per the production plan while championing health and safety, staff development, and Hilton Foods Group behaviours.

You will train and develop staff, maintain adequate staffing, manage performance, and coordinate with engineering and scheduling to meet production demands, continuously improving processes to deliver high-quality products

Qualifications

  • English language fluent.
  • Demonstrable good standard of education.
  • Level 3 Food Safety In Manufacturing - desirable.
  • Relevant Safety qualification.
  • Computer literate.
  • 5 Years experience in a supervisory / management role in the Food Industry.
  • Experience of managing teams in a complex food manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to deliver work requirements in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Dynamic Decision Maker who is prepared to take responsibility for decisions.
  • Knowledge and understanding of GMP standards for major retailers and to BRC accredited standards.
  • Direct experience of implementing & managing TPM / Lean / Six Sigma - desirable.
  • Good Communicator.
  • Demonstrable People Management skills.
  • Ability to analyse problems / issues and come up with novel workable solutions to improve department performance.

Responsibilities

  • Drive and support behavioural safety within shift teams and ensure all safe systems at work are adhered to.
  • Lead a 8216no acceptance8217 culture of H&S (no acceptance culture).
  • Provide training, instruction, guidance and advice to ensure the competence of employees and ensure tasks are within their skills to perform safely to SOPs.
  • Produce product to required specification.
  • Ensure adequate number of trained staff are available to deliver the production plan.
  • Manage teams and back-up for other Team Managers.
  • Develop and use line leaders and machine operators effectively.
  • Manage performance by objectives using the company process and training as required.
  • Hold monthly 1-to-1s with the team to aid development and coaching.
  • Manage staff per company policies; ensure Site Discipline procedures are followed.
  • Ensure CCP checks are performed and communicate with the team and engineering.
  • Actively manage issues to ensure materials, operators and assets meet production demand.
  • Implement changes to demand/product or ingredients with appropriate feedback to materials and customers.
  • Oversee cleaning and maintenance of production assets, involving operations and engineering.
  • Coordinate with Engineering Coordinator on asset maintenance and breakdowns.
  • Ensure changes to plan from Scheduling are managed promptly and cost-effectively.
  • Manage or ensure effective materials and ingredients control budget.
  • Complete documentation timely and accurately for each process.
  • Reduce customer complaints and attend investigations and root-cause reviews.
  • Attend NPD trial meetings and escalate challenges as needed.
  • Attend/Lead DRM2 meetings and escalate where appropriate.

Job description

Job Title: Shift Manager

Salary Range: CAD$70,395– CAD$85,995.

Working Type: On-Site

OurShift Manager will ensure that Products are manufactured by your team to therequired quality and cost as per the production plan, be a champion of H&S,Quality & Delivery. Ensure that staff development is a priority to ensuresuccession where required, well-trained, well-motivated staff are developed andretained. Be a passionate advocate ofour products and role model for HFG Behaviours and review areas and make andimplement suggestions as to how departmental performance can be improved todeliver higher quality and reduced cost.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Drive and support behavioural safety within shift teams & ensure all safe systems at work are adhered to.
  • Lead a "no acceptance" culture of H&S
  • Provide training, instruction, guidance and advice to ensure the competence of employees and ensure that allocated tasks are within their skills, knowledge and ability to perform safely to relevant SOPs
  • Produce product to required specification.
  • Ensure an appropriate number of trained staff are available to deliver the production plan.
  • Responsible for managing agreed teams & backup for other Team Managers.
  • Develop and effectively use your line leaders and Machine Ops so they effectively perform their roles
  • Manage performance by objective setting and review using the HFG Joint agreement process and development training as required
  • Hold regular monthly 1 to 1 ‘s with to team to aid their development and provide coaching and support as required
  • Manage staff via agreed company policies and procedures, ensure Site Discipline procedures is adhered to.
  • Ensure all CCP checks are performed by the line team, in line with company policies and procedures and that the line team escape to you and the technical team in a timely fashion
  • Actively manage any issues which occur in the team area, taking full responsibility & accountability of actions to ensure the availability of materials, operators and functioning assets to deliver the required production demand.
  • Ensure that changes to demand/product or ingredients within the programme are implemented and co-ordinated effectively with effective feedback to materials supplies and to customer departments.
  • Manage the cleaning and maintenance of all production assets, including building fabric to meet site GMP standards. This asset maintenance involves both operations and engineering
  • Work closely with the relevant Engineering Coordinator to ensure asset maintenance and breakdowns are effectively dealt
  • Ensure all changes to plan as notified by Scheduling department are managed in the most time and cost-effective way making certain that all relevant people are aware of the change
  • Manage (or ensure) effective materials and ingredient control budget.
  • Ensure relevant documentation is completed in a timely and accurate manner in their assigned process
  • Reduce customer complaints and attend NCF meeting to review investigations and root cause and take accordingly.
  • Attend NPD trial meetings, own and assign actions accordingly. Identify and escalation any required challenges
  • Attend/Lead DRM 2 meetings, escalating where appropriate.
