Job summary

407 ETR is seeking a Shift Lead, Operations in Woodbridge to support Highway Operations by delivering programs for road surfaces, signing, illumination and drainage to meet MTO standards and safety plans. The role requires rotating shifts and weekend on-call duties.

You will guide staff, coordinate winter and summer maintenance, supervise contractors, and assist with scheduling and data entry while upholding safety and high operational standards. A DZ licence is preferred or obtainable.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of experience in construction, road maintenance or related field.
• Excellent verbal and non-verbal communication; clear, direct, unbiased.
• Strong organizational skills to monitor progress and keep the team engaged.
• Ability to delegate tasks to develop team skills.
• Valid DZ driver's licence or ability to obtain within the required period.

Responsibilities

• Engage and train staff on signage, illumination, drainage and traffic guidance systems and ensure staff have the necessary licences and certifications.
• Plan, coach, engage and mentor staff, ensuring work aligns with policies and procedures.
• Coordinate winter and summer road maintenance activities and winter storm response.
• Supervise contractors to meet contract specs and safety standards.
• Lead highway incident and spill responses; ensure safety and operations data collection.
• Assist with shift scheduling, data entry into databases, and other admin tasks.

Job Description:Title: Shift Lead, OperationsDepartment: Highway OperationsLocation: 6200 Steeles Ave West, WoodbridgeTotal Potential Compensation: $70,000 - $90,000Position Summary:Reporting to the Supervisor, Operations, this position is assisting the Highway Operations Leadership Team in the delivery of the program activities for maintaining the traveled road surfaces, signing, illumination, drainage systems and traffic guidance systems in a safe condition (MTO Standards) and as defined in our safety Control Plans for both Winter and Summer Maintenance.Note: This position will be required to work rotating shifts and work in all road and weather conditions, as well as be on-call during weekends as required and needed.Duties and Responsibilities:Ensuring that staff are engaged and trained on the operating components, signage, illumination, drainage and traffic guidance systems as well as ensuring staff have the necessary licences and certifications to carry out their job assignments.Work with, plan, coach, engage and mentor staff ensuring the work is carried out in accordance with policies and procedures.Working shifts, assist with the coordination and delivery of winter storm response and winter and summer road maintenance activities.Ensure work carried out by contractors and outside agencies are completed according to contract specifications, MTO standards and are completed being done safelyHighway collision, incident and spill response.Delivery of Weekly safety toolbox talks to staff.Asset management and inspections and data collection.When needed, assist Highway Operations Manager and Supervisor with administration work such as shift scheduling, work scheduling, traffic plans, performance appraisals, recommendations for staff training and improvements, data entry into data bases etc.Other duties as assigned.Qualifications:Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent.Minimum 5 years of experience in construction, road maintenance or relevant field.Excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
