Job summary

Preston Phipps Inc in Mississauga is seeking a Service Technician for their Technical Solutions Group, specializing in HVAC & Controls. The ideal candidate will be responsible for troubleshooting and commissioning HVAC systems while providing customer training and support.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or technical diploma OR equivalent field experience.
  • Comfortable working at heights and using ladders.
  • Willing to travel within Ontario.

Responsibilities

  • Start up, troubleshoot, and commission HVAC and controls equipment.
  • Provide on-site training and follow-up support to customers.
  • Read and interpret mechanical, electrical, and controls drawings.

Skills

Practical knowledge of HVAC fundamentals
Experience with building automation systems
Basic computer skills (Excel, Word)
Ability to lift 40+ lbs
Valid driver's license

Education

Service Technician (HVAC & Controls), Technical Solutions Group

We are expanding our Technical Solutions Group, a specialized team focused on high‑complexity HVAC controls, lab ventilation, and critical‑air systems. This group works closely with engineering, project delivery, and OEM partners to solve challenging problems and elevate our controls capabilities across Ontario.

What You’ll Do
Technical Responsibilities
  • Start up, troubleshoot, and commission steam, hot water, HVAC, and controls equipment
  • Commission and integrate Phoenix Controls systems and Niagara‑based platforms
  • Perform mechanical repairs, preventive maintenance, and system optimization
  • Support and conduct energy audits
Field Execution
  • Read and interpret mechanical, electrical, and controls drawings
  • Coordinate with contractors, electricians, and other trades on construction projects
  • Maintain accurate documentation, job records, and inventory
  • Work safely in mechanical rooms, active construction sites, and critical‑environment facilities
Customer Support
  • Provide on‑site training and follow‑up support to customers
  • Communicate clearly with facility teams, contractors, and end users
  • Stay current on product updates, system advancements, and best practices
Our Technology Environment
  • BACnet, Modbus, and third‑party integration
  • Critical‑air systems in healthcare, pharma, and research facilities
What We’re Looking For
Education & Experience
  • Associate degree or technical diploma OR equivalent field experience
  • Practical knowledge of HVAC fundamentals, start‑up, and commissioning
  • Experience with building automation systems and controls integration
Preferred Experience
  • Experience with lab ventilation systems (Phoenix Controls experience an asset)
  • Experience with Niagara 4 or other BAS platforms (training provided)
  • Familiarity with BACnet/Modbus integration
Additional Requirements
  • Basic computer skills (Excel, Word)
  • Comfortable working at heights and using ladders
  • Willing to travel within Ontario
  • Valid driver’s license with clean record
  • Ability to obtain UHN and Infrastructure Ontario security clearance
  • Ability to lift 40+ lbs and work in mechanical rooms and construction environments
