Job summary

Black & McDonald Limited in Edmonton, AB is seeking an experienced Service Plumber (4th year - Journeyman) to join our Service Division. The role reports to the Service Operations Supervisor and requires hands-on, customer-focused technical work.

Responsibilities include maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, and small project execution for commercial plumbing systems, with on-call participation and strong emphasis on safety and communication.

Qualifications

• 4th Year or Journeyman Ticket/eligibility required.
• B‑Gas certification considered an asset; A‑Gas certification considered a strong asset.
• Cross Connection Certification will be considered an asset.
• WHIMIS, SCOTT, R&R, Mobile Aerial Platform Training, Fall Protection Training, Confined Space Training will be considered assets.
• Demonstrated experience in plumbing or mechanical service environments with the ability to diagnose, repair, and maintain plumbing systems and gas-fired appliances.

Responsibilities

• Perform planned maintenance on commercial plumbing and heating equipment (pumps, hot water tanks, water filtration, backflow devices).
• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair commercial plumbing systems.
• Organize and execute small re-pipe, retrofit, and tenant improvements.
• Perform routine and emergency drain cleaning and plumbing tasks.
• Conduct suite turnovers, repairs, and general maintenance.
• Complete daily service reports with maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair recommendations using B&M mobile app.
• Prepare accurate labour and material take-offs for work and materials ordering.
• Work autonomously or in teams to deliver work on time and within budget.
• Communicate clearly with customers, suppliers, and team members via phone, text, email, and apps.
• Participate in rotating 24/7 emergency on-call service.

ABOUT THIS CAREER OPPORTUNITY

Black & McDonald is currently seeking an experienced Service Plumber (4th year - Journeyman) to join our Service Division in Edmonton, AB! If you are a hands-on, customer service-oriented, and technically inclined professional searching for the opportunity to build a solid foundation for your career, this position is for you. The Service Plumber position is located in Edmonton, AB and will report directly to the Service Operations Supervisor.

The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate a strong work ethic, willingness to learn, a great attitude, and a genuine passion for the trade. Service Plumbers are required to be skilled in all manner of pipe joining methods; comfortable with the use of common industry specific hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic tools; and adept at reading and interpreting technical literature.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

• Perform planned maintenance activities on commercial plumbing and heating equipment. (Not limited to Pumps, Hot Water Tanks, Water Filtration Systems, Backflow Devices)
• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair commercial plumbing systems
• Organize, layout and execute small re-pipe, retrofit, and tenant improvement projects
• Perform routine and emergency drain cleaning and plumbing tasks
• Conduct suite turnovers, repairs, and general maintenance
• Complete daily service reports documenting maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair activities including service and repair recommendations using B&M mobile service reporting application
• Compile accurate labor and material take-offs for work recommendations and materials ordering
• Work either autonomously or in teams to complete work efficiently, on time, and on budget
• Communicate clearly and effectively with customers, suppliers, and team members via phone, text, email, and mobile applications
• Participation in rotating 24/7 emergency on-call service

SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

• Clean Class 5 Driver’s License and abstract; willing and able to travel to various sites
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Ability to always maintain a professional demeanor with fellow employees, customers, and stakeholders.
• Strong problem-solving skills.
• Knowledge of basic computer skills including Microsoft Outlook and mobile device applications
• Physically able to perform field service work, including lifting up to 50 lbs, climbing ladders, working in confined or elevated spaces, and standing or kneeling for extended periods.
• Willing and able to join Local 488 Union
