Job summary

The City of Delta is seeking a temporary full-time Senior’s Centre Coordinator to oversee day-to-day operations, programs and activities for older adults, working with seniors, volunteers, staff and community organizations to ensure a welcoming, inclusive and engaging recreation experience.

Graduation from a two-year diploma in recreation or related field is preferred, with a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence and First Aid.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the planning, development, and evaluation of centre programs and activities with staff and volunteers.
  • Supervise and train staff and volunteers; hire instructors as needed.
  • Manage daily centre operations and facility maintenance.
  • Coordinate centre-based events and participate in larger city events.
  • Promote programs and prepare information for flyers, newsletters, and local media.
  • Maintain liaison with the Board, members, staff and community organizations.

Job description

Join us in creating meaningful opportunities for older adults in our community! We are seeking an enthusiastic, organized and community minded Senior’s Centre Coordinator to join our team on a temporary full time basis for approximately 12-14 months. In this role, the incumbent will oversee the day to day operations, programs and activities, work closely with seniors, volunteers, staff, and community organizations to ensure the centre provides welcoming, inclusive and engaging recreation programs and services. You will play an important role in understanding the needs and interests of older adults and translating those needs into quality programs, activities, events and services.

Responsibilities
  • Acts as a resource to the centre’s volunteer Association Board and membership in facilitating the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of centre-based programs and activities; identifies and assesses the needs and interests of the membership; coordinates and oversees programs and activities, such as the Delta Seniors’ Bus Program, ensuring the efficient delivery of services and adherence to established standards, practices and policies.
  • Plans, assigns, trains, supervises and evaluates the work of a small group of staff; directs and reviews the work of and trains volunteers; arranges for con¬tract instructors or hires part time instructors, as required, and super-vises and evaluates work of same.
  • Oversees the daily operations of the centre and facility maintenance; performs a variety of administrative duties related to the operation and maintenance of the facility such as ensuring for its care and cleanliness, renting and scheduling its use, collecting prescribed fees, and arranging for repairs.
  • Coordinates centre-based special events; organizes and facilitates the development of information and activities for community-based events; participates in larger city-based events as directed.
  • Promotes interest in programs, activities, special events and services available for seniors; prepares programming information, flyers, news releases and monthly newsletter.
  • Establishes and maintains liaison with the Board, the membership, other departmental and municipal staff, and community organizations; provides information and assistance to the public with respect to recreation services for senior citizens.
  • Administers a small operating budget for the centre; monitors expenditures and orders supplies; prepares and maintains correspondence, reports and records related to the work.

Graduation from a two-year diploma program in recreation or a discipline related to the work, plus sound related community recreation experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience is preferred. A valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence is required, as well as valid first aid certificate.

The City of Delta provides a competitive salary of $38.26 - $45.03 (commensurate with experience) and an excellent benefits package including the Municipal Pension Plan.
