Job summary

Dow is seeking a Senior Tax Specialist in Canada to lead direct tax activities end to end, including compliance, tax accounting, controversy and transfer pricing governance. This role partners with Canadian leadership to align Canada tax outcomes with Dow’s global tax strategy.

The successful candidate will manage audits, oversee tax incentives, and serve as a senior advisor for planning and transactional work, bringing strategic thinking and cross-functional collaboration to the team.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or military experience at or above US E5/Canadian Petty Officer 2nd Class or Sergeant.
  • 8+ years of relevant experience in Canadian corporate income tax, tax accounting, and tax controversy.
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada; no visa sponsorship provided.

  • Owns Canada's direct tax strategy and governance across compliance, tax accounting, controversy, transfer pricing and incentives.
  • Oversees external advisor preparation of Canadian corporate income tax compliance for all entities (federal & provincial filings).

About You and this Role

Dow is seeking a Senior Tax Specialist to join our team in Canada.

Strategic Impact

Working directly with Tax and Canadian leadership, this role supports key Dow priorities, including Path2Zero. As a major strategic investment, Path2Zero pairs world-scale petrochemical expansion with industry-leading decarbonization technology. Specifically, the role leads all Canadian direct tax activities end to end, including compliance, tax accounting, controversy, transfer pricing governance, and tax incentives. It maintains the integrity of Canadian tax positions while aligning Canada tax outcomes with Dow’s global tax strategy.

Primary Responsibilities

Owns Canada’s direct tax strategy and governance across compliance, tax accounting, controversy, transfer pricing, and tax incentives. Oversees external advisor preparation of Canadian corporate income tax compliance for all entities, including federal and provincial filings. Ensures Canadian tax balances in financial statements are accurate and complete. Leads Canadian federal and provincial corporate income tax audits, including query management, response coordination, and resolution of CRA/provincial notices of assessment and reassessment. Serves as the escalation point for CRA/provincial matters, including audits, authorizations, waivers, collections, and dispute resolution; escalates high-impact audit items to Dow Tax’s Controversy and Risk Management team as needed. Provides oversight for Canadian transfer pricing compliance, including information returns and contemporaneous documentation prepared by external advisors. Oversee SR&ED and tax incentive portfolio, including claim accuracy, advisor coordination, and integration with income tax filings. Acts as senior tax advisor for Canadian planning and legal entity transactions. Leads Canadian tax process improvements and initiatives aligned with global tax strategy and reporting objectives.

Required Qualifications

A minimum of a bachelor’s degree or relevant military experience at or above a U.S. E5 or Canadian Petty Officer 2nd Class or Sergeant ranking. 8 or more years of relevant experience (e.g. Canadian corporate income tax, tax accounting, and tax controversy, etc.) A minimum requirement for this Canada based position is the ability to work legally in Canada. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of Canada permanent residency process.

Preferred Qualifications

Canadian CPA or equivalent professional designation. Prior experience in global tax, cross‑border tax matters, and/or multinational environments. Adaptability: Effectively adjusts to changing business priorities, regulatory requirements, and evolving organizational needs. Attention to Detail: Maintains a high level of accuracy and thoroughness when managing complex tax matters, financial data, and regulatory filings. Strategic Thinking: Evaluates issues from a long-term perspective, anticipates risks and opportunities, and aligns decisions with broader business objectives. Project & Conflict Management: Successfully manages complex projects and issues, anticipates challenges, navigates competing priorities, and delivers results within established deadlines. Communication & Relationship Building: Builds credibility and trusted relationships through effective communication, collaboration, and the ability to influence senior leaders and internal stakeholders.

Additional Notes

Occasional travel may be required to support efforts at our sites in Canada. This position does not offer relocation assistance.
