Job Description
Overview:
Reporting to the Manager, Taxation, the Senior Tax Analyst will assist in the tax compliance, tax planning and tax reporting requirements for the Brookfield Residential. This individual will play an integral role in identifying and implementing best practices, and optimizing the corporation’s tax structure. As a member of the finance team, the Senior Tax Analyst will interact with senior leadership to assist in the implementation of tax opportunities and satisfactorily resolve prior years’ tax examination.
Key Deliverables:
Prepare tax working papers, tax analyses and gather information for partnership and corporate income tax returns and facilitate the process with external advisors
Prepare and file corporate and partnership income tax returns, information returns, elections and remittances in a timely and accurate manner for all applicable jurisdictions across Canada and the US
Prepare monthly GST filings for corporate entities
Assist with tax installment and coordinate payments to tax authorities
Assist with the preparation of responses to federal, provincial, and state income tax audits
Prepare quarterly and annual tax accounting provisions under U.S. GAAP and assist in the tax reporting to Prepare quarterly and annual tax accounting provisions under U.S. GAAP and assist in the tax reporting to our parent company under IFRS
Create templates, as necessary, to facilitate gathering of tax information from divisions
Reconciliation of income tax accounts
Ensure compliance with the organization’s internal controls in relation to tax and relevant accounting and tax policies
Play a key role in the implementation of process improvement opportunities to increase efficiency in tax processes
Monitor applicable tax legislation to proactively assess and determine the impact of any proposals to the Company
Provide tax support and guidance to our internal stakeholders
Keep abreast of the latest tax developments and issues that impact the organization such as changes in legislation, court decisions, rulings, etc.
Prepare comprehensive memos detailing tax findings, implications, and recommendations
Assist in ad hoc projects as required
What You Bring:
CPA (or in the process of obtaining a) designation
Minimum of 3 years tax experience specializing in corporate income tax in a public accounting firm or publicly traded company
CICA In-Depth Tax Course (In the process of completing or or willing to complete)
Experience with corporate/partnership tax compliance and tax accounting process and knowledge of financial reporting requirements
General US tax experience is an asset but not required
Knowledge of accounting standards relating to accounting for income taxes under US GAAP and IFRS
Experience in dealing with tax authorities and financial statement auditors
Self-starter with high attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure to meet reporting deadlines
Ability to communicate orally and in writing in a clear and straight forward manner
Great team player with the ability to anticipate and proactively resolve issues
Strong working knowledge of computerized accounting systems and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Tax Prep
