Our client is adding a new role, Senior Systems Engineer - Variable Frequency Drives, to their team in Sutton, MA. You'll be working on hardware from specs through design to commissioning.

This role has been covered by other resources in the company, and as they continue to grow, they need an in-house expert! Is that you?

Primetals Technologies, a worldwide leading engineering and manufacturer of capital equipment for the steel-making industry, known for our strengths in mechanical engineering, electronics, automation, manufacturing, project management, and service, is hiring for the position of Sr Systems Engineer - Drives Eng.

Location: Sutton, MA

Primetals has an immediate need in the Electrics Automation Group in Sutton, MA, for Senior Level Systems Engineers. This position will require some domestic and international travel.

Required Education: BSEE or equivalent combination of education and experience in Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) system design.

Position Overview:

The person will be responsible for developing and designing complex systems that integrate hardware and software, including:

• Complex material specification.
• Schematic preparation and follow-up.
• Developing recommendations for productivity improvement, cost reduction, and customer satisfaction enhancements.
• Guiding complex technical interchange and knowledge transfer related to processes and product application in system design.

General Duties Include:

• Designing and specifying hardware for Variable Frequency Drives.
• Parametrizing and tuning programs for VFDs for specific industrial metal technology applications.
• Identifying problems as they occur and taking appropriate steps to resolve them, especially when problems are complex.
• Seeking advice and guidance on non-routine or complex issues from colleagues.
• Collaborating with the immediate manager, project team, and customers during project execution.

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

• BS/BA in a related discipline, or an advanced degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in drive systems.
• 5+ years of experience with medium to large VFDs in industrial settings.
• Detailed knowledge of equipment, processes, systems, and facilities related to electrical engineering of steel mill equipment.
• Understanding of complex engineering principles, calculation methods, equipment design, and selection.
• Strong team skills and ability to work effectively in diverse, multinational groups.
• Flexibility and willingness to travel occasionally within the US and internationally.
• Knowledge of drive systems such as Siemens Sinamics S120, ABB ACS880, or Rockwell Powerflex.
• Understanding of motor operation and ability to specify and select motors properly.
