Description

HITACHIRAIL is looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated Senior System Engineer who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of tasks from administrative to strategic. The position is based in Pittsburgh, PA.

Duties:

• Analyze customer supplied system specifications and decompose statements into software requirements.
• Identify gaps between customer requirements and standard onboard system hardware/software products.
• Create system specification documents, system architecture including interface control design documents, and trace system specifications to customer specs.
• Ensure hardware and software design satisfy customer specifications, and develop or review test procedures and trace matrices.
• Act as the primary technical interface to the customer throughout the project lifecycle and coordinate with internal departments.

Accountabilities:

• Analyze drawings and project-specific documents.
• Determine optimal parameter values for braking distances, speed limits, timers, and dimensions.
• Develop a map of all system objects including signals, switches, tracks, crossings, etc.
• Manage configuration control documents and maintain them throughout the project.
• Generate onboard system requirements and manage change processes.
• Revise and maintain all changes to requirements, software, and hardware.
• Create complex Software Requirements Specifications (SRS), Interface Control Design Documentation (ICDD), and Software Architecture Design (SAD) documents.
• Create requirement trace matrices linking test procedures back to requirements and customer specifications.
• Utilize requirement management systems, software configuration management tools such as DOORS, and MS Office Suite.

Required Skills and Experience:

• 8-10 years of experience as a System Engineer in safety-related industries.
• Strong analytical skills for technical documents and complex rule sets.
• Experience with modeling or simulation using Python or MATLAB.
• Mastery of calculus, differential equations, physics, probability, and numerical optimization.
• Proficient in technical documentation and communication.
• Team-oriented with a proactive approach to learning and collaboration.

Desired Skills/Knowledge:

• Knowledge of railway interlocking principles.
• Familiarity with IEEE 1474.1 safe braking model.
• Experience with software configuration management and version control tools (e.g., Git).

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering
