Job summary

Greater Sudbury Hydro Inc (GSHI) is a trusted electrical distribution company serving Greater Sudbury and West Nipissing. The role reports to the Manager of Engineering and focuses on planning, design, protection, automation, and performance of substations and associated assets.

The successful candidate will lead substation capital projects, develop standards, and support asset management for safe, reliable power delivery to our communities.

Qualifications

• Requires a four-year university degree in electrical engineering.
• Must be registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) with the PEO.
• Minimum five years of substation engineering experience.
• Competent knowledge of substation equipment and systems including protection, transformers, grounding, automation.
• Familiarity with CSA, IEEE, IEC, ESA standards and Ontario Regulation O.Reg. 22/04.

Responsibilities

• Design, expand, renew, and modernize substations and equipment.
• Perform protection, fault current, grounding, and arc flash studies; develop relay settings and control logic.
• Develop engineering standards and design criteria for substation equipment and SCADA.
• Lead capital substation projects from scope through close-out, coordinating consultants and contractors.
• Support asset management with risk assessments, lifecycle planning, and equipment maintenance recommendations.
• Provide engineering support for outages, failures, and emergency restoration.
