Job summary

Greater Sudbury Hydro Inc (GSHI) is seeking a Stations Engineer to provide engineering expertise for planning, design, protection, automation, renewal and ongoing performance of electrical substations and assets.

Reporting to the Manager of Engineering, you will lead substation capital projects, support asset management and lifecycle planning, and ensure compliance with applicable standards. A P.Eng is required with at least five years in substation engineering.

Qualifications

• Requires a four-year university degree in electrical engineering from an accredited post-secondary institution or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Must be registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) with the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO).
• Minimum five years of substation engineering experience, preferably in a utility environment.
• Knowledge of utility substation equipment and systems including protection systems, transformers, instrument transformers, MV switching, AC/DC systems, grounding, automation equipment and power qualityMonitoring.
• Familiar with CSA, IEEE, IEC, ESA standards and Ontario Reg. 22/04.

Responsibilities

• Provide engineering design, expansion, renewal and modernization of electrical substations including major equipment and protection/control systems.
• Perform protection, fault current, grounding, equipment duty, arc flash and capacity studies; develop relay settings and control logic.
• Develop and maintain engineering standards, specifications and design criteria for substations and automation/SCADA.
• Lead substation capital projects from scope and budgeting through design, procurement, construction, testing and close-out.
• Support asset management and capital planning with condition and risk assessments and lifecycle recommendations.
• Provide engineering support for outages, failures and emergency restoration, including investigations and corrective actions.
• Review technical submissions and ensure designs meet regulatory requirements and industry standards.
