Placements24 is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to lead the design of commercial buildings. This fully remote role involves conceptualizing, designing, and overseeing structural integrity from inception to completion, in collaboration with a dispersed team.

You must have a Master's in Structural Eng, PrEng with ECSA, 8+ years, and proficiency in ETABS, SAP2000, Revit Structure and CAD, plus knowledge of SA building codes.

About the Role

Our client, an established engineering firm with a strong presence in commercial development, is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to join their fully remote team.

This role is ideal for an experienced professional who can lead the structural design of commercial buildings, including office blocks, retail centers, and mixed-use developments.

The successful candidate will be responsible for conceptualizing, designing, and overseeing the structural integrity of projects from inception to completion, ensuring compliance with all relevant building codes and standards.

You will work with a dispersed team, utilizing advanced modeling and analysis software.

This position offers the significant advantage of remote work, allowing you to contribute your expertise from anywhere in South Africa while supporting impactful projects in the Northern Cape and nationally.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead structural design for commercial building projects, including foundations, superstructures, and special structures.
• Perform complex structural analysis and design calculations for steel, concrete, and masonry structures.
• Develop detailed structural drawings, specifications, and reports using advanced software.
• Ensure designs comply with the National Building Regulations (NBR) and SANS codes.
• Collaborate effectively with remote architects, services engineers, and project managers.
• Review shop drawings and provide technical support during construction phases.
• Manage project timelines, budgets, and client communications for structural components.
• Mentor and guide junior structural engineers and CAD technicians remotely.
• Conduct peer reviews of designs to ensure accuracy and quality.
• Stay current with the latest developments in structural engineering software, materials, and techniques.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Structural Engineering or related discipline.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in structural engineering, with a significant focus on commercial building design.
• Professional Engineer (PrEng) registration with ECSA.
• Proficiency in structural analysis software (e.g., ETABS, SAP2000, Revit Structure) and CAD software.
• In-depth knowledge of South African building codes and standards.
