Job summary

Union Gospel Mission (Vancouver) seeks a Manager, Strategic Communications to shape UGM's external voice on homelessness, poverty and related social issues. You will provide strategic counsel to leaders, develop compelling narratives, and drive media relations and advocacy communications.

Reporting to the Director, Public Engagement, the role leads a team, coordinates with Marketing and Fundraising, and guides crisis and issues management.

Qualifications

• University degree or equivalent with strong writing skills or background in Journalism or Public Relations.
• Five to ten years’ experience in communications and media relations.
• Professional PR designation preferred.
• Proficient in project management software such as Asana, SharePoint, Outlook365, Salesforce
• A valid BC driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
• Newsroom experience is considered a strong asset.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement strategic external communications that strengthen UGM’s public voice.
• Develop clear, compelling narratives and messaging across external channels.
• Advise Senior Leadership on external positioning and opportunities.
• Develop and maintain key messages, narrative frameworks, and talking points.
• Lead media relations and secure coverage across diverse media.
• Prepare and coach spokespeople for media interviews and opportunities.
• Supervise team members and external consultants as needed.
