Job description

We are seeking a career-driven, passionate, energetic and motivated Sous Chef to work with us at our brand new restaurant location in Ladysmith BC. Position to start April 2025 or sooner.

Summary:

The Sous Chef plays a critical leadership role in the kitchen, supporting the Chef in managing operations, supervising staff, ensuring food quality, and taking full ownership of the product. The ideal candidate is an independent leader who can confidently take charge during high-volume periods and in the Chef's absence while also working collaboratively with the Chef to maintain excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Support the Chef in menu development, food preparation and kitchen operations.
  2. Supervise and mentor kitchen staff, ensuring consistent food preparation and plating.
  3. Take pride in food quality, consistency, and presentation, ensuring high standards are maintained at all times.
  4. Supervise, mentor, and inspire the kitchen team, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
  5. Provide clear direction and leadership during high-volume periods to maintain efficiency and quality under pressure.
  6. Manage food inventory and assist with ordering and stock rotation.
  7. Ensure strict adherence to food safety, sanitation, and hygiene standards, leading by example for the team.
  8. Assist in training staff on cooking techniques, operational procedures and time management.
  9. Take charge during the Chef’s absence, ensuring smooth kitchen operations.
  10. Collaborate with the Chef to improve kitchen efficiency and productivity.
  11. Maintain a problem-solving mindset, addressing challenges with calmness and professionalism.

Qualifications:

  4. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
