Job summary

Sophos seeks a Senior Software Engineer in Canada to help build and improve cloud-based email security services at scale. You will work with experienced engineers, architects, and product leaders in a mission-driven cybersecurity organization, shaping system design and engineering best practices within the Messaging Security Group.

You will lead projects under guidance, mentor others, and contribute to UI coordination with the global Sophos UI team, ensuring alignment with company UI principles.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience shipping production services.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as Claude and Codex.
• 5+ years of software development with Java, JavaScript, Angular, GoLang, and possibly React.
• 5+ years of experience using AWS services (S3, EC2, SQS, SNS, CloudWatch, Lambda, ECS, EKS).
• Ability to navigate ambiguous, complex problems and meet requirements across performance, security, and cost.
• Strong design, implementation, and testing skills, and ability to present to Tech Council.
• Experience reviewing PRs and collaborating with cloud-native teams.

Responsibilities

• Use AI-assisted development tools to design, develop, test, document, and deploy components of Messaging Security Group services.
• Contribute across the full software stack with strong test coverage and automation, delivering on timelines and requirements.
• Participate in project planning and deliver high-value, high-quality solutions meeting business needs.
• Analyze and understand project requirements.
• Participate in product design aligned with technical strategy, quality standards, and functional requirements.
• Mentor junior team members through pair programming and code reviews.
• Contribute to daily stand-ups, kick-offs, and retrospective meetings.
• Participate in security reviews to ensure compliance with Sophos security requirements and best practices.
• Contribute to code reviews to improve quality and correctness across the team.
• Define test scenarios and test cases for the team's deliverables.
• Other duties and responsibilities as directed.
