British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI) seeks a Senior Software Engineer to design and deliver end-to-end full-stack solutions for the Private Equity analytics platform. You will work with PE teams to build AI agents, data pipelines, and analytical models, with production ownership from scoping through release.
You will leverage Python/JavaScript, Databricks, and Azure, delivering scalable apps, secure APIs, and robust CI/CD, while mentoring teammates and shaping engineering
With $313.7 billion of gross assets under management, as of March 31, 2026, British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI) is the provider of investment management services for British Columbia’s public sector and one of the largest asset managers in Canada. BCI seeks investment opportunities around the world and across a range of asset classes that convert savings into productive capital. Our investment returns play a significant role in helping our institutional clients build a financially secure future for their beneficiaries. Headquartered in Victoria, British Columbia, and with teams spanning Vancouver, New York, London, and Mumbai, BCI integrates environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors into all investment decisions to meet clients' risk and return requirements. Our people shape employee‑focused initiatives, creating a strong culture. To learn more about our culture and values, visit our BCI Values in Action page. This isn’t a traditional IT role, and it isn’t a traditional Software Engineer, Data Engineer, or Business Intelligence role either. You’ll learn the business, build relationships, and partner with Private Equity SMEs to solve problems instead of taking orders. You’ll build applications, automated workflows, and AI agents that change how the PE team works day to day, along with the data pipelines, models, and dashboards that sit underneath them. The role can be based in either our Vancouver or Victoria, BC offices, we will not consider candidates only looking to work remotely.
We run Databricks (Unity Catalog, Apps, Lakebase, Genie, Vector Search), Azure, Power BI, and enterprise Claude across the full product suite (Claude Code, Artifacts, Cowork, Skills), already connected to our data platform through an MCP server we built and operate. We are actively replacing manual processes with agentic workflows and internal apps built with AI‑assisted development. High‑impact work: 75% of the organization uses our analytics; we work with smart, ambitious business users on high‑ROI use cases where the results show up in real investment decisions. Embedded, not ticketed: The team sits with the PE department. You’ll be in the room when problems are defined, not handed a spec afterwards. Great culture: Fast‑paced with world‑class expectations, but supportive and genuinely fun.
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Technology Solutions (Private Equity), the Senior Software Engineer designs and delivers end‑to‑end, full stack solutions for the business, from production applications and AI agents through to the data pipelines and analytical models that power them, working with minimal technical direction. You’ll partner closely with Private Equity (PE) teams across PE Finance, PE Operations, Deal teams, and PE directors and executives, where data accuracy has real business and regulatory consequences. You’ll own your work from the first conversation with a stakeholder to the production release and beyond.
This role can be based in either our Victoria or Vancouver office. Relocation support within Canada is available if needed. We are an in‑person, collaborative organization with the flexibility to work remotely one day per week.
The annualized salary range for this role is CAD $106,000 to $128,000.
We pay our people competitively in the markets in which we operate and with consideration for internal equity and job structure. The base salary will consider factors such as the individual's skill set, experience, and internal equity. We aim for actual pay to be around the market median for expected performance and the upper quartile for excellent performance. Actual salaries may vary based on experience and expertise.
