Job summary

The Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) seeks a Senior Software Development Specialist to lead application development standards and modernization across AESO programs. You will drive secure, scalable, observable solutions and guide teams through modern development practices including cloud-native and AI-assisted approaches.

You will collaborate with Solution Architecture, Cyber Security, Data/AI teams and product teams to translate direction into practical engineering practices, while

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field; a master’s is an asset.
• 15+ years of experience in software development, modernization, and engineering leadership.
• Experience in cloud, DevSecOps, architecture frameworks, and AI-enabled development.

Responsibilities

• Own and evolve application development standards, patterns, reference implementations and guardrails.
• Enable modernization of business-critical apps with secure, scalable and observable solutions.
• Guide modernization while maintaining reliability and operational continuity.
• Provide technical guidance, assess debt, and roadmap software life cycle.
• Establish secure SDLC, quality engineering, testing, release management and production readiness.
• Coach teams and drive continuous improvement for performance and developer effectiveness.
