BC Ferries in Saltery Bay seeks a Senior Chief Engineer (Intermediate) to join the Shipboard Management Team as Engineering Manager and Watchkeeping Engineer Officer. You will oversee propulsion, power generation, and support safety, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence.

Lead engineering operations, budgets, maintenance, and incident response while developing crew capabilities and fostering a culture of safety and customer service on BC’s coastal routes.

Qualifications

  • First or Second Class Motor Engineering Certificate of Competency.
  • Supervisory and business courses are an asset.
  • Experience as Chief Engineer at the equivalent certification level.

Responsibilities

  • Lead vessel engineering operations to ensure safe, reliable transport.
  • Oversee propulsion, power generation, safety, and environmental systems.
  • Manage budgets, planning, and inventories for engineering needs.
  • Oversee maintenance programs, drydock projects, and inspections.
  • Ensure Transport Canada compliance and company policies.
  • Lead emergency preparedness, crew training, and drills.
  • Collaborate with Master, shore teams, regulators, and contractors.
  • Provide leadership and development for engineering crew.
  • Foster safety, accountability, and customer service excellence.
