BC Ferries seeks a Senior Chief Engineer (Intermediate) in Saltery Bay to join the shipboard management team as Engineering Manager and Watchkeeping Officer, directing all vessel engineering operations for safe, reliable service.

You will lead maintenance programs, manage budgets and resources, ensure regulatory compliance, and mentor engineers, contributing to safety and exceptional coastal service. The salary range is 144,700–180,900 CAD annually.

Qualifications

  • First or Second Class Motor Engineering Certificate is required.
  • Supervisory and business courses would be an asset.
  • Experience as Chief Engineer with supervisory duties is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all vessel engineering operations for safe, reliable transport.
  • Act as Engineering Manager and Watchkeeping Officer.
  • Oversee maintenance budgets, inventories, and resources.
  • Supervise maintenance, drydocks, repairs, and inspections.
  • Ensure Transport Canada compliance, safety and environmental rules.
  • Lead emergency preparedness, drills, and incident response.
  • Collaborate with Master, shores, regulators and contractors.
  • Provide coaching and development for engineering staff.
  • Foster safety culture, accountability, and service excellence.
