Job summary

Aequilibrium is seeking a Senior Service and UX Designer for a multi-year public-sector digital modernization initiative based in Canada. You will lead service design, user research, and enterprise UX across housing programs, Dynamics 365, and partner portals.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

Senior Service and UX Designer, Government Digital Transformation Full-time Contract | Remote within Canada | Alberta Business Hours

About the opportunity

Aequilibrium is seeking a Senior Service and UX Designer for a potential multi-year public-sector digital modernization initiative. You will help improve complex internal, partner-facing, and public-facing digital services supporting housing programs across Alberta. The environment includes an enterprise Microsoft Dynamics 365 platform, a Partner Portal and related digital services. This is a senior, hands-on role combining service design, user research, enterprise UX, accessible interface design and stakeholder facilitation. You will work within a cross-functional Agile team alongside product managers, business analysts, developers, architects and government stakeholders. The initial contract is expected to run from November 2026 to November 2027, with the potential for two additional one-year extensions. The successful candidate must reside and work in Canada and be available full-time during Alberta business hours.

Compensation

The anticipated contractor rate for this role is $80–$100 per hour, depending on experience, public-sector qualifications, and alignment with the required service-design capabilities. The engagement is expected to be full-time, with approximately 2,000 hours anticipated annually. The initial one-year contract may be extended for up to two additional one-year terms; extensions and annual hours are subject to client approval and are not guaranteed.

What you will do

• Map complex service ecosystems and develop current-state and future-state journey maps and service blueprints.
• Translate research, user needs and business requirements into information architecture, user flows, wireframes and interactive prototypes.
• Design intuitive, responsive and accessible interfaces for enterprise web applications and portals.
• Create and maintain enterprise design systems, including component libraries, design tokens and interaction standards.
• Apply WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility requirements throughout research, design and implementation.
• Facilitate design-thinking, co-design and stakeholder-alignment workshops.
• Collaborate closely with product, business, architecture, development and quality-assurance teams within an Agile environment.
• Prepare production-ready design specifications and support developer handoff, implementation and design QA.
• Use usability metrics, analytics and user feedback to measure outcomes and guide continuous improvement.
• Provide design leadership while remaining actively involved in research and design delivery.

What we are looking for

• 10+ years of progressive experience delivering UX, UI and service design within complex enterprise environments.
• 5+ years supporting digital transformation within government, the broader public sector or Crown corporations.
• A post-secondary degree or diploma in interaction design, human-computer interaction, UX design, product design, industrial design, graphic design, computer science or a related discipline.
• Demonstrated experience designing responsive enterprise applications, portals or complex digital-service platforms.
• Strong human-centered service-design experience, including user research, journey mapping, service blueprinting and current-state and future-state service modeling.
• Experience designing citizen-facing, partner-facing or internal enterprise digital services.
• Experience developing or governing enterprise design systems, component libraries and design tokens.
• Demonstrated application of WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility standards.
• Experience preparing production-ready specifications and supporting implementation through developer handoff and design QA.
• Strong stakeholder-facilitation and design-leadership capabilities.
• Experience working with cross-functional Agile delivery teams.
• Proficiency with Figma, Miro, and FigJam, as well as Jira or Confluence.
• Ability to work full-time during Alberta business hours, approximately 8:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mountain Time.
• Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365, government case-management platforms, partner portals, housing, social services, or similarly complex service environments would be especially valuable.
