Job summary

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Senior Safety Computer Engineer in Mississauga to provide technical guidance, lead computer systems teams, and drive design for safety-critical software in nuclear applications.

You will develop requirements, review designs, and collaborate with suppliers and other divisions to ensure compliant, secure computer control systems. A strong background in software development and cyber security practices is essential.

Qualifications

• Honours degree in computer or electrical engineering.
• Eligible to be registered as a Professional Engineer in Ontario.
• Minimum 12-15 years in a computer controls environment.
• Familiarity with software design/development standards across industries.
• Strong technical, problem-solving and multidisciplinary teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical guidance and leadership to Computer Systems Engineering staff.
• Supervise, coordinate and review work of engineers and support staff.
• Prepare requirements and preliminary designs for plant-wide digital equipment systems.
• Develop tools for test/development systems for safety-critical software production.

We are proud to be the steward of Canadian CANDU nuclear technology. ## **Your role** * Provide technical guidance and leadership to Computer Systems Engineering staff at lower grade levels and/or other technical employees.* Supervise, co-ordinate and review work of engineers and support employees.* Prepare requirements and preliminary designs for digital equipment systems such as the plant-wide communications network.* Prepare requirements and develop tools for test/development systems as needed for the production of safety critical software.* Execute software engineering tasks including software requirements specification, software design descriptions, coding, verification, testing, and documentation.* Evaluate computer vendor products and prepare processes and procedures for implementing such products into the computer software design, development and V&V processes.* Assist in planning activities associated with design, verification and testing of computerized safety, control and monitoring systems.* Assist in preparation of work-scopes, design and quality requirements, and design plans for the various stages of computer systems development.* Participate in the concept design of safety, control and monitoring computer systems to define the system requirements, computer architecture, product/tool technologies and evaluate system performance and reliability.* Assist in preparation of guides and procedures following international standards for work practices related to quality software for safety applications in the nuclear industry.* Develop software and scripts using a variety of programming languages/ toolsets/ environments including, but not limited to: IEC 61131-3 languages, C, C++, Varian / SSCI-890 Assembler, Fortran, Pascal, Visual Studio, LabView, XML, Photon.* Test script development using in-house scripting languages.* Update and/or prepare Computers Engineering design documents including software requirements specifications, software design descriptions, and software manuals.* Interface with various engineering disciplines, suppliers, and other divisions within the company.* Develop cyber security processes and documentation related to project activities (procurement, design, etc), and identification of vulnerabilities / controls for specific end-devices.
