Job summary

AtkinsRéalis in Mississauga is seeking a Senior Safety Computers Systems Engineer to prepare requirements and preliminary designs for digital equipment systems and test environments for safety-critical software. You will evaluate vendor products, assist in planning activities, and develop cyber security documentation for project activities within a multidisciplinary team.

The role requires a relevant honours degree and 8–10 years in computer controls with strong communication and problem-solving

Qualifications

• Honours degree in computer or electrical engineering from a recognized university.
• Eligible to be registered as a Professional Engineer in Ontario.
• 8–10 years of experience in a computer controls environment preferred.
• Familiarity with safety software engineering standards is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Prepare requirements and preliminary designs for digital equipment systems (plant-wide networks).
• Develop tools and test suites for safety-critical software production.
• Perform software engineering tasks including requirements, design, coding, verification and documentation.
• Evaluate vendor products and integrate into software design, development and V&V processes.
• Assist in planning design, verification, testing, and work-scopes for system development.
• Contribute to safety, control and monitoring computer system concepts and architecture.

We are proud to be the steward of Canadian CANDU nuclear technology. ## **Your role** * Prepare requirements and preliminary designs for digital equipment systems such as the plant-wide communications network.* Prepare requirements and develop tools for test/development systems as needed for the production of safety critical software.* Execute software engineering tasks including software requirements specification, software design descriptions, coding, verification, testing, and documentation.* Evaluate computer vendor products and prepare processes and procedures for implementing such products into the computer software design, development and V&V processes.* Assist in planning activities associated with design, verification and testing of computerized safety, control and monitoring systems.* Assist in preparation of work-scopes, design and quality requirements, and design plans for the various stages of computer systems development.* Participate in the concept design of safety, control and monitoring computer systems to define the system requirements, computer architecture, product/tool technologies and evaluate system performance and reliability.* Assist in preparation of guides and procedures following international standards for work practices related to quality software for safety applications in the nuclear industry.* Develop software and scripts using a variety of programming languages/ toolsets/ environments including, but not limited to: IEC 61131-3 languages, C, C++, Varian / SSCI-890 Assembler, Fortran, Pascal, Visual Studio, LabView, XML, Photon.* Test script development using in-house scripting languages.* Update and/or prepare Computers Engineering design documents including software requirements specifications, software design descriptions, and software manuals.* Interface with various engineering disciplines, suppliers, and other divisions within the company.* Develop cyber security processes and documentation related to project activities (procurement, design, etc), and identification of vulnerabilities / controls for specific end-devices.
