The Senior Residential Mortgage Underwriter - Originations is responsible for contributing to overall portfolio growth and profitability, focusing on operational and service excellence. The role involves applying a senior lending approach to assess the creditworthiness of customers based on established lending criteria, including managing higher risk complexities, exception handling, and pricing decisions, all while meeting performance targets and service standards.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Contributing to Residential Lending results, ensuring growth and profitability targets are met
• Maintaining knowledge of Community Trust residential mortgage underwriting policies, procedures, and products
• Negotiating, structuring, and evaluating mortgage applications according to internal policies
• Managing portfolio risk through sound credit decisions within authorized limits, escalating with rationale as needed
• Reviewing complex deals, higher risk credit analysis, and escalations
• Issuing mortgage commitments with appropriate conditions
• Managing escalations within SLA expectations
• Providing mentorship and guidance within the team
• Supporting the Manager, Residential Lending
• Partnering with Mortgage Advisory to enhance customer experience
• Keeping up-to-date with industry trends and market conditions
• Ensuring accurate record-keeping and compliance with standards
• Identifying and implementing continuous improvement opportunities
• Following AML procedures, emphasizing "Know Your Client" rules
• Proactively managing AML compliance and risk situations
• Adhering to operational risk controls and company policies
• Managing tasks to meet SLA expectations

Are you our next Senior Residential Mortgage Underwriter?

You are if you meet the following criteria:

• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in residential origination, preferably in alternative lending
• Ability to provide alternative solutions based on product and guideline availability
• Post-secondary education preferred
• Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills
• Understanding of various loan types, attributes, and risk factors
• Working knowledge of Google Workspace
• Strong negotiation and sales skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
• Effective organizational and time management skills
