Job summary

The City of Markham is seeking a Recreation Coordinator - Programs and Outreach to provide planning and strategic leadership across inclusion services, marketing and outreach, and community engagement for recreation programs serving Markham residents.

Responsibilities include establishing policies for inclusion/adaptive programming, steering marketing roadmaps, coordinating volunteers, and leading a team of staff to deliver service excellence.

Qualifications

• University Degree or College Diploma in Recreation or appropriate discipline.
• 5–7 years supervisory experience in a recreation or customer service environment.
• Extensive knowledge of seniors, youth, inclusion and programming methodology.
• Current certifications in Standard First Aid OR CPR ‘C’ and AED.
• Extensive knowledge of social services and community resources for vulnerable populations.
• Experience with legal requirements for operation of aquatics, fitness and program services.

Responsibilities

• Lead the department's inclusion camp service and programs.
• Develop and maintain the strategic framework, standards and policies for the delivery of inclusion and adaptive programming across Recreation, Libraries and Culture, and other Corporate service areas.
• Provide strategic direction and consultative support to Recreation staff and functional program areas, including camps, aquatics and fitness, on inclusion, adaptive programming and behavioural support practices.
• Coordinate marketing and communications on behalf of the Department and support functional teams in developing annual roadmaps.
• Provide strategic direction on the Department's annual community events schedule and staff standards.
• Lead recruitment, coordination, training and recognition of volunteers supporting Recreation programs and events.
• Provide research, statistical analysis and trend analysis to support data informed decision making and program planning.
• Act as liaison for advisory boards and committees, including Mayor's Youth Council and committees.
• Provide leadership to full-time and part-time staff across inclusion and outreach portfolios.
