Job summary

Algo is seeking a hands-on Senior Quality Engineer to design and scale an ISO 9001-aligned QMS for a growing hardware business. You will embed quality early in New Product Introduction, collaborate across R&D, Manufacturing, Operations, and supply chain, and drive continuous improvement on product and process quality.

Responsibilities include establishing core QMS processes, leading internal and external audits, developing quality dashboards, and guiding NPIs from design to ramp.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, or a related technical discipline; equivalent relevant experience will be considered.
  • Seven or more years of quality engineering or quality-systems experience supporting physical or electromechanical products.
  • Demonstrated experience building or materially improving an ISO 9001-aligned QMS, not solely maintaining an established system.
  • Direct experience with ISO 9001 certification readiness, certification, surveillance, recertification, or significant external-audit programs.
  • Strong practical knowledge of internal auditing, CAPA, risk-based thinking, FMEA, control plans, first articles, MSA/Gage R&R, SPC/process capability, document control, and change control.
  • Experience supporting NPI, pilot builds, manufacturing transfer, early production ramp, and mature-product sustaining changes.
  • Experience qualifying and improving suppliers and contract manufacturers.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, BOMs, test requirements, and revision-controlled product documentation.
  • Strong written communication and the ability to influence cross-functional process owners without relying on direct authority.
  • A pragmatic, hands-on approach: comfortable working on the production floor, with suppliers, and with leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Assess current quality practices and develop a pragmatic ISO 9001-aligned QMS roadmap.
  • Build and maintain core QMS processes, including document control, training, internal audits, management review, nonconformance, CAPA, risk management, supplier controls, calibration, traceability, change control, and records management.
  • Establish process ownership, governance, review cadences, and escalation paths across Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, and Quality.
  • Lead internal-audit planning and execution; coordinate external-audit readiness and certification activities.
  • Develop quality dashboards for defects, yield, escapes, supplier performance, audit findings, CAPA aging, and cost of poor quality.
  • Lead the Quality workstream for NPI programs from design through pilot builds, production release, and early ramp.
  • Define quality gates, CTQs, acceptance criteria, verification evidence, traceability, and manufacturing-readiness requirements with diverse teams.
  • Facilitate risk-based quality planning, including DFMEA, PFMEA, control plans, first-article requirements, process validation, inspection/test methods, and risk registers.
  • Improve process capability, first-pass yield, defect containment, inspection methods, production-test effectiveness, and operator-facing quality documentation.
  • Lead investigations and corrective actions for manufacturing, supplier, customer, and field-quality issues using 8D, root-cause analysis, CAPA, etc.
  • Establish supplier qualification, supplier-change notification, scorecards, corrective-action, and audit practices.
  • Ensure changes receive quality-impact assessment, validation, and controlled approval.

Job description

Position Overview:

We are looking for a hands-on Senior Quality Engineer to help to build and scale a practical, ISO 9001-aligned Quality Management System for a growing hardware business.

This is a systems-building role. The successful candidate will establish the processes, controls, records, and habits that enable Algo to design, source, build, test, and support products predictably. You will work across R&D, Manufacturing Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, and suppliers to embed quality early in New Product Introduction, strengthen manufacturing processes, and create a foundation for continual improvement.
Note: Only local applications (Metro Vancouver area) will be considered for this role.

Responsibilities:
  • Assess Algo’s current quality practices and develop a pragmatic roadmap toward an effective, ISO 9001-aligned QMS.
  • Build and maintain core QMS processes, including document control, training and competency, internal audits, management review, nonconformance, CAPA, risk management, supplier controls, calibration, traceability, change control, and records management, as applicable.
  • Establish process ownership, governance, review cadences, and escalation paths across Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, and Quality.
  • Lead internal-audit planning and execution; coordinate external-audit readiness and certification activities as the company’s ISO 9001 plan matures.
  • Develop quality dashboards that make defects, yield, escapes, supplier performance, audit findings, CAPA aging and effectiveness, and cost of poor quality visible and actionable.
  • Lead the Quality workstream for NPI programs from design development through pilot builds, production release, and early ramp.
  • Partner with R&D and Manufacturing Engineering to define quality gates, critical-to-quality characteristics, acceptance criteria, verification evidence, traceability, and manufacturing-readiness requirements.
  • Facilitate risk-based quality planning, including DFMEA, PFMEA, control plans, first-article requirements, process validation, inspection and test methods, and risk registers.
  • Partner with Manufacturing Engineering to improve process capability, first-pass yield, defect containment, inspection methods, production-test effectiveness, and operator-facing quality documentation.
  • Lead structured investigations and corrective actions for manufacturing, supplier, customer, and field-quality issues using 8D, root-cause analysis, CAPA, and other appropriate methods.
  • Establish supplier qualification, supplier-change notification, performance-scorecard, corrective-action, and audit practices.
  • Ensure product, supplier, material, process, tooling, and alternate-component changes receive appropriate quality-impact assessment, validation, and controlled approval.
Qualifications:
Preferred Experience
  • ASQ CQE/CQA, Lean, or Six Sigma certification.
  • Experience with PCBAs, cable/harnesses, plastics and injection molding, machined parts, fixtures, electromechanical assembly, or contract manufacturing.
  • Experience implementing electronic QMS, PLM/PDM, ERP/MRP, or manufacturing-documentation systems.
  • Experience with electrical safety, EMC, regulatory, or customer-specific product-quality requirements.
  • Experience building quality systems in a scaling hardware company.
